To obtain is to want; to accomplish is to strive. Will man's basest desires be fulfilled to the greatest degree, and his purest aspirations perish for want of sustenance? Such is not the Law: such a condition of things can never obtain: "ask and receive."Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. The prophecy of what you will eventually uncover is your ideal, and the promise of what you will one day be is your vision.
A dream came true at first, and for a short time, it was the greatest accomplishment. The acorn holds the sleeping oak, the egg holds the waiting bird, and the highest vision of the soul inspires a waking angel. Reality's seeds are fantasies.
Your circumstances may not be ideal, but they won't stay that way for long if you just have an ideal in mind and work toward it. Without it, you are unable to remain still and move about inside. Here is a young man who is burdened by poverty and hard work; imprisoned for prolonged periods in
Regardless of your current surroundings, your thoughts, your vision, and your ideals will determine your destiny. In Stanton Kirkham Davis's eloquent words, "You may be keeping records, and soon you will step out of the door that has long seemed to you the impediment to your aspirations, and you will find yourself in front of an audience, the pen still behind your ear, ink stains on your fingers, and then and there you will unleash the deluge of your inspiration. You might be herding sheep, and you'll meander to the bucolic city with an open mouth; you'll wander into the master's studio under the spirit's fearless guidance, and after a while, he'll say, 'I have nothing else to teach you.' And now you've become the master, who just lately dreamed of grand things while herding sheep. You'll put down the saw and the plane to undertake the regeneration of the world."
Of luck, of wealth, and chance, speak the thoughtless, the ignorant, and the indolent, seeing only the surface consequences of things and not the things themselves. They exclaim, "How lucky he is!" when they see a man amass wealth. Upon seeing someone else develop into an intellectual, they declare, "How fortunate he is!" "How chance assists him at every turn!" they comment as they note another's saintly character and broad impact. They do not observe the trials, failures, and hardships these men have freely faced in order to gain their experience; they are unaware of the sacrifices they have made, the unwavering efforts they have exerted, and the faith they have demonstrated in order to conquer the seemingly insurmountable and fulfill the Vision of their heart.
They do not know the darkness and heartaches; they just see the light and happiness and refer to it as "luck." They refer to it as "good fortune" because they only see the delightful objective and don't see the long and difficult trek. They only see the result and call it chance, not understanding the procedure.
Every human endeavor is characterized by work and outcomes, and the outcome is proportional to the amount of effort put forth. It's not luck. Gifts, powers, and material, intellectual, and spiritual possessions are the results of effort; they are thoughts finished, objects accomplished, and visions realized.
The Ideal that you enthrone in your heart, the Vision that you glorify in your mind, this will be the foundation of your life, and this is what you will become.
