Jesus is my Shield(He'll never leave nor forsake me)

"But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head." — Psalm 3:3

When enemies were rising and the odds were stacked so high,

when voices whispered "there's no help for you in God,"

You stepped between the arrows and the dark and falling sky,

and held the line beside me where I stood, afraid, and awed.

You are my shield, my covering, my refuge when I'm weak,

the wall that stands around me when I cannot stand alone,

the One who lifts my head up when I have no strength to speak,

the One who calls me His, and makes the battle His own.

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped." — Psalm 28:7

I have walked through valleys where the fear was loud and near,

I have felt the sting of words that tried to break me from within,

but every dart that flew at me, You turned aside, or clear,

and every wound that touched me, You were mending it again.

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler." — Psalm 91:4

I used to think that courage meant I had to fight alone,

that strength was something I must build from nothing, on my own,

but You taught me that surrender is the strongest thing,

I've known to stand behind Your shield and trust the battle's Yours, not mine.

"Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward." — Genesis 15:1

So let the arrows fly, let the storms come as they will,

let the enemy come marching with a thousand words of doubt,

I am hidden in the shadow of the One who loves me still,

the One who lifts my head, and turns the battle inside out.

"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." — Ephesians 6:16

You are my shield, my glory, and the lifter of my head,

my covering in danger, and my peace when I am scared,

and I will never walk alone, whatever lies ahead,

for the One who holds the shield is the One who always cared.

"The Lord will fight for me and I will hold my peace" — Exodus 14:14
