RESCUE THE PERISHING

RESCUE THE PERISHING

People are around us who are hurting, struggling, and looking for hope. Some smile on the face and in the heart there is deep suffering. Some are lost, others are enslaved to fear, addiction, disappointment, sin or hopelessness. Inside they might be all shake and tremble but on the outside they are so tough. That is why the call to “Rescue the Perishing” is so important.

Jesus Christ came to this world to look for and to save the lost. He went to bring blessing to those who already believed, but to those who were broken, rejected, forgotten and far from God. We are called as followers of Christ to carry on that mission to be a conduit of His love to others.

To save the drowning isn't always to stand behind a pulpit or sermonize to the masses. Sometimes it involves listening to a person who is feeling disregarded. It involves supporting a friend who is giving up. To pray for someone who has lost faith is to pray for those who have fallen. It is to forgive someone who has made a mistake and to let them know that their mistake is not the end of their story.

God still loves people; there are people who need to know that. They must learn to accept that what has come before isn't important. They must be told that there is forgiveness, restoration and a new beginning, through Jesus.

The world tells people that they are not good enough, they have made mistakes and they are disqualified and there's no coming back. The Gospel has a different tale to tell, however. Jesus provides salvation for those who come to Him, hope for the hopeless, and mercy for the broken.

We need to take time then to not judge people before knowing what they are facing. What we scold now for some reason might be the love and patience that they require. We are not to push people away, but rather make ourselves into instruments of God's grace that can reach out to them.

Time is precious. Individuals make decisions every day which impact their eternity. We don't know the time limit of the person. Hence, let us not delay kindness, prayer, encouragement or the message of Christ.

Rescue the perishing. Seek the lost. Encourage the weak. Comfort the hurting. Guide individuals to Christ, the Light of the world. Make our lives a testimony of the reality of God's love.

There is no way that we can save the world, but we can make a difference to one person's life. A word of encouragement can rekindle someone's courage. One prayer can cure a tired heart. A good deed can draw a person nearer to God.

May we never numb ourselves to those who are suffering. May we never be too proud to go down to the fallen. And may God grant us kind hearts ready to go out and look for the lost and lead them to Jesus.

The dying ones await someone to care. Let us serve others as hands, feet and voice of Christ.
