The guards in the room cocked their guns and pointed it at me.
“Oh nasty act right there boy” their boss said lifting his hands up in the air pretending to surrender. “Let her go” I said. He got up from the sofa and walked to where I stood, then he put my gun down and told his men to do the same. “Ooof” a punch made its way to my abdomen taking me by surprise, then another to my face and as a third one approached my abdomen again, I evaded it and striked back with a punch to his face, but that didn’t do a thing to him. Two of his guard held both my hands from my behind and just then there was a knock at the door.
***************
The room was silent. The door opened and a sly man on full white walked in holding a walking stick. He looked familiar but I couldn’t identify who he was at the moment. “Boss boss said to let the boy go, else” the man said and pointed to the Mexican boss forehead. A red dot was on his head. A sniper was nearby, somewhere. “Let him go” the Mexican boss said. The guards let me go, I picked up the briefcase and my gun which I had dropped during the scuffle. I took Jane by her elbow and walked towards the door “my greetings to boss boss” the Mexican boss said, I ignored and kept on moving. The man on white shut the door behind us and took a different stairway from us. I looked at him again but still couldn’t figure out who he was. He nodded and I nodded back. Outside the brothel I took some cash from my wallet and gave it to Jane “Here board a taxi and see yourself home” I said.
“You had a gun!” she exclaimed. “You should be home with your family, siblings, friends and not with some kid on the street” I yelled at her.
“Why are you yelling? Who are you anyway? Why does everyone at school know nothing but your name?” she asked so many questions. “Go home” I said and started back the way I came. She followed behind me “I’m sorry if I caused any trouble.” She apologized. “Oh you did, more than you can imagine, enough trouble they could suspend my pay for months. Enough trouble that some pest won’t be able to understand” I shouted at her then continued walking. We got to the open street and I flagged a taxi. “Take her home” I said, “Where?” the driver asked, “She’ll let you know” I told him then turned to her, “Go home Jane, this is beyond you. Keep your distance from me” I told her, then paid her fare without minding. “keep your money, I don’t need it” she said returning the money I had initially given her. She mounted the cab and faced me “we’ll talk tomorrow” she said, I stood staring at her. After the taxi drove off, I boarded another taxi home.
