TOPIC: PURPOSE [3] - DISCOVERING YOUR PURPOSE
TEXT: Hebrews 10:7; John 4:34
AIMS/OBJECTIVES:
To understand the benefits of purposeful living
To model a purposeful life.
MEMORY VERSE: “For all things were created by Him, and all things exist through Him and for Him. To God be the glory forever! Amen.” (Rom 11:36)
INTRODUCTION:
“Live life with a due sense of responsibility, not as those who do not know the meaning of life, but as those who do” (Eph 5:15). Jesus Christ is the perfect model of one who lived purposefully; He lived to please the father, created and stayed with a group of those whom he called to live for God, lived in service to God regarding himself as a servant, and always reached out for the lost and downtrodden in the society, reconciling men to God.
LESSON DETAILS:
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A LIFE OF PURPOSE?
- Knowing your purpose gives meaning to your life. When life has meaning, you can bear almost anything; without it, nothing is bearable. [Isaiah 49:4, Job 7:6,16].
- Knowing your purpose simplifies your life. Your purpose becomes the standard you use to evaluate which activities are essential and which are not. It also leads to peace of mind. (Prov 13:7, Isa 26:3).
- Knowing your purpose focuses your life (Eph 5:17).
- Knowing your purpose motivates your life. Purpose always produces passion. (Romans 8:28)
- Knowing your purpose prepares you for eternity (Ephesians 1:10).
A MODEL FOR A PURPOSEFUL LIFE:
Let’s help you conceptualize a purposeful life.
- A purposeful life is one that gives God pleasure (Rev 4:11; Ps 149:4; Isa 61:3). It is a life of worship and reverence to God (Ps 147:11)
- A purposeful life is a life of membership and belonging to God’s family (Rom 12:5; Jn 15:5; Eph 2:19). You are called to belong not just believe.
- A life that portrays Christ. (Col 1:15, Rom 8:29). You were created to become like Christ [in character, words and deeds].
- A life of service to God and by extension, humanity (1Cor 3:5-6, Eph 2:10). We serve using our Spiritual gifts, our Hearts, Abilities, Personality and Experiences [family experiences, vocational experiences, spiritual experiences, educational experiences, etc.].
- A life of missions (Matt 28:18-20; Prov 11:30; Acts 20:24). Your mission is a continuation of Jesus’ mission on earth; reaching out to souls, reconciling the world to God through the Gospel.
CONCLUSION:
A purposeful life is truly the only way to live. Everything else outside purposeful living just exists. Your identity, importance and impact are all summed up in God’s purposes for you. Choose purposeful living today!
