Nobody at Westbridge Academy knew why Eliana had transferred in the middle of the term. She was quiet, always sat at the back of the classroom, and never seemed interested in making friends. But on her first day, she walked straight up to seventeen-year-old Maya and whispered, “You need to stop trusting your friends.” Maya laughed nervously. “We've never even met.” Eliana stared at her. “I know. That's why I'm warning you.” The next morning, Maya found a folded note inside her locker: ASK YOUR FRIENDS WHAT HAPPENED ON JULY 16TH. Her heart dropped. July 16th was the night she and her three closest friends—Tara, Jay, and Noah—had promised never to discuss again. That evening, Maya confronted them. “Who told Eliana about that night?” Nobody answered. Finally, Tara whispered, “She knows because she was there.” Maya stared at her. “What?” Before Tara could explain, Maya received a message from an unknown number. THEY LIED TO YOU. Attached was a photograph from July 16th. It showed Maya, Tara, Jay, and Noah outside an abandoned house. Standing behind them was Eliana. Maya called her immediately. “How were you there?” Eliana replied, “Because I followed you.” She explained that her older brother, Daniel, had disappeared two years earlier while investigating the abandoned house. He had discovered that someone was using it to hide stolen school documents and money. On July 16th, Eliana followed Maya and her friends because she believed they had found something connected to Daniel. “But why don't I remember you?” Maya asked. Eliana hesitated. “Because you fell and hit your head that night. Your friends took you home and told everyone you had been alone.” Maya refused to believe her. She went home and searched through an old box of photographs. At the bottom, she found another picture from that night. This time, she noticed someone standing behind the group. It was Daniel. Alive. Maya immediately showed Eliana. Eliana's eyes filled with tears. “That's my brother.” Suddenly, Maya remembered something. Before she had fallen, Daniel had given her a small metal key and whispered, “Don't let them find this.” Maya searched her old belongings and found the key hidden inside a pencil case. The two girls returned to the abandoned house. Behind a loose brick, they found a small metal box containing documents, photographs, and a flash drive. The evidence revealed that the school's former administrator had been stealing money and using students' records to cover it up. Daniel had discovered everything and had been forced to hide until he could safely expose them. They took the evidence to the police. Within weeks, the investigation began, and Daniel finally returned home. Maya confronted Tara, Jay, and Noah about their lies. They admitted they had been scared and had agreed to keep quiet after the administrator threatened them. Maya forgave them eventually, but their friendship was never exactly the same. As for Eliana, she stayed at Westbridge Academy. She and Maya became close friends. Months later, Maya found the old photograph from July 16th in her drawer. She almost threw it away, but something caught her attention. In the background, barely visible through the window, was a man watching them. Maya recognized him immediately. It was the former administrator. Beneath the photograph was a handwritten sentence: “You found the truth, but you didn't find everyone.” Maya slowly looked at Eliana. The mystery wasn't completely over. But this time, they were ready.
