Letters to My Friend šŸ¤

10: The Weight You Never Talk About

Dear Friend,

There are weights no one sees.

The weight of wanting to make your parents proud.

The weight of wondering if you're becoming enough.

The weight of trying not to disappoint the people who believe in you.

The weight of watching your friends move forward and quietly wondering if you're falling behind.

The weight of having dreams so big that sometimes they scare you.

The weight of praying big prayers and secretly fearing they may never happen.

And then there is the weight of simply trying to be okay when, deep down, you know you're not.

Some burdens don't leave bruises on your shoulders.

They settle quietly in your heart.

They follow you into classrooms, into conversations, into your room at night.

You smile.

You laugh.

You answer, "I'm fine."

And somehow, everyone believes you.

But God knows.

He knows the thoughts you don't know how to explain.

He knows the tears you wipe away before anyone sees them.

He knows the expectations you've placed on yourself and the ones others have placed on you.

He knows how exhausting it can be to constantly feel like you have to prove that you're doing well.

And perhaps the strangest thing about carrying invisible burdens is that you can get so used to them that you forget they are burdens at all.

You simply learn to live with the heaviness.

But, dear friend, you were never created to carry everything.

Some things are too heavy for human shoulders.

Some questions are too complicated for your mind to solve.

Some outcomes are beyond your control.

And some burdens were never yours to carry in the first place.

Jesus never invited us to carry life alone.

He simply said,

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

— Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

I love that He said come.

Not figure it out first.

Not fix yourself first.

Not be stronger first.

Just...

Come.

Come with the questions.

Come with the fear.

Come with the disappointment.

Come with the dreams you are afraid to say out loud.

Come with the pressure.

Come with the version of yourself that doesn't have everything together.

He didn't ask for a polished version of you.

He asked for you.

Maybe you've been trying so hard to hold everything together that you've forgotten what it feels like to be held.

Maybe you've been measuring your life by how much you've achieved instead of remembering that your worth was never dependent on achievement.

Maybe you've been afraid that if you stop striving, everything will fall apart.

But perhaps surrender isn't giving up.

Perhaps surrender is finally admitting,

"God, I cannot carry this by myself."

And that's not weakness.

That's trust.

You don't have to know exactly how everything will work out before you place it in God's hands.

You don't have to understand His timing before you trust His heart.

You don't have to have every answer before you rest.

Because peace doesn't always begin when the burden disappears.

Sometimes, peace begins when you realize you are no longer carrying it alone.

So, dear friend, breathe.

You don't have to solve your whole life today.

You don't have to become everything you hope to be overnight.

You don't have to prove yourself to everyone.

Give yourself permission to rest.

Give yourself permission to be human.

And most importantly, give God the things you've been trying so desperately to hold.

His shoulders are stronger than yours.

His hands are steadier than yours.

And His plans are bigger than what you can see right now.

Let Him carry you.

Reflection ✨

What burden have you been carrying in silence that God is inviting you to surrender today?

And if you could place one worry completely into God's hands right now, what would it be?

PRAYER šŸ™ šŸ¤

Father,

You know every expectation, every fear, every unanswered question, and every hidden burden I carry.

You know the things I speak about and the things I keep buried deep within my heart.

Today, I choose to lay them before You.

Teach me not to carry what You have asked me to surrender.

When I feel pressured, remind me that I don't have to have everything figured out.

When I feel afraid, remind me that You are still God.

When I feel tired, teach me to rest in You.

Help me trust Your timing, Your wisdom, and Your plans for my life.

And when the weight becomes too heavy, remind me that Your shoulders are stronger than mine.

I surrender it all to You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

With hope always,

Your Friend. šŸ¤
