I stared at the mirror,
My reflection screamed “ugly”
My countenance was “weak”
All I could see was “broken”
I had lost a battle against my flesh
I thought my strength was sufficient
I thought I was having fun
But I boom and boom then boomed
My years away
Where do I begin from?
Life they say happens but
Is it really life, I lived?
Or did I get so obsessed with the world
Standard that I forgot what really mattered?
Hmmm
I wanted fun
I got fun and
Now, I’m being made fun of
The irony of life
I chased after all that man valued
I didn’t want to seem like the “boring lady”
I kept telling myself, “life is short, let’s live large”
I listened to crowd that said “who Dey marry church girl?”
I forgot to ask ,”who will marry a prostitute?”.
Hmmm
I stared at my reflection on the mirror again
I finally saw that, I was just a weak vessel
Who thought too highly of herself
Pride instead comes before a fall
I fell on my knees and spoke to the God, who I despised for long
Now, I understood why believers lived a consecrated lifestyle.
They aren’t boring, they’re principled
I closed my eyes and lifted up my hands,
Then I heard His voice say “Forgiven”
At last, I have been renewed.
I confessed my faults and weakness, came to Him who strengthens the weak,
He took me in and watched me clean.
I’M RENEWED.
