When Everything Suddenly Became Expensive

When Everything Suddenly Became Expensive

I’m still trying to wrap my head around why and how everything just became so costly in Nigeria. Like, howww? 😭

Sometimes I sit down and think about how things used to be when I was little. I remember going to the shop and seeing sweets and chewing gum worth just ₦5 or so. Five naira! You could actually give a child ₦20 and they would come back with plenty things. Biscuits, sweets, chewing gum—something. ₦20 used to feel like actual money.

But now? Hmmm.

Everything has changed.

Before, you could legit go into the market with ₦20,000 and come back with a whole lot of things. You could buy provisions, foodstuff, toiletries and still have something left in your pocket. But now, try entering the market with only ₦20,000 and see what happens.

You’ll come back with a nylon that only your pinky finger can even carry. 😭

And the annoying part is that I keep wondering, why is it when it finally reached my turn, everything just became this expensive? Why now? Why couldn’t I have been born during the era when ₦20,000 could actually do something serious? 😂

Now, even the little things I used to take for granted have become things you have to think twice about buying.

I remember how I could easily get biscuits and sweets for my niblings. It wasn’t even something I had to calculate. You could just see something and say, “Ah, let me buy this for them.” Everything was somehow affordable.

But now?

Hmmmmm.

Even ₦20 naira plenty o! 😭

And now that school is about to start, I honestly don’t even know what to say. My school things—the things I need to get ready and start school properly—are already making me think. Everything I need seems to have its own price tag that wants to fight me. 😂

I’m just praying to God to intervene because omooo mehnnnn, everything is just anyhow.

Sometimes I wonder how parents and families are even managing everything right now. Food is expensive, transportation is expensive, school things are expensive, and even the small things you want to buy for yourself somehow become a financial decision.

But sha, it’s well.

I’m trying not to worry too much because I know God will help me. Somehow, everything I need for school will come together. Somehow, my provisions and everything else will be sorted out.

For now, I’ll just keep praying, trusting God and trying not to calculate the prices of everything too much before my head starts spinning. 😂

Because honestly, Nigeria, what happened?

Why did ₦20 stop being plenty? 😭

Sometimes I actually wish I was born then o even my mother once told me her school fees was once just 200naria like wow 200NARIA hmmm

When it na eventually became 2008 everything changed for the next generation Omo God will help us hopefully 😪 because it's not actually easy at all living with this present day life

I know God will intervene
