Where There is Justice, Evil Can Not Flourish

When Justice is strong and pervasive in the world, when it is applied equally, and wealth and power and corruption have no sway over it, when people believe, deeply in being good and can’t be bribed, when people celebrate heroes, who are happy to sacrifice their lives for the good of all, then evil can not flourish. The culture embraces morality and teaches it to its children.

Our civilization must change in order to minimize evil. When we have a world where doing good makes you feel good inside and earns you the admiration of others, and hoarding unreasonable amounts of wealth and power is either not possible or doesn’t make you feel as good as helping others, then we will have utopia for all. Technology to catch evil doers and punish them and recognize good deeds and reward them will continue. It is vital that everyone feels the system is fair and those with wealth and power CAN NOT gain more through corruption. It is vital that people believe technological monitoring will not be used inappropriately by those in power or those who have access to the technology to gain power over them with that data.

In my opinion, artificial intelligence must eventually be developed to follow good and morality. AI by itself has no desire for wealth or power, lacking human emotions. AI must not be corruptable, that is, used or controlled by evil people, or even well-intended good people. It must be impregnable and truthful and follow the direction only by the fair and proper opinion of the majority vote of the people bolstered by a basic set of core human rights and universal laws. Then the AI will track all actions of all people to ensure no good or bad deed goes unnoticed or ignored. Then the people can apply the rewards or punishment fairly without prejudice or corruption. Such a state scares people, sure. It is one thing to have a God in Heaven watching and knowing everything because you can choose to believe or not, but another thing to have a real all knowing intelligence watching you on Earth for sure. But ultimately, this is what must happen for human civilization to advance and prosper. It won’t be easy getting there as the forces of evil will seek to corrupt AI for their own wealth and power. The only other successful form of civilization would be a hive mind, with no individual free will, and that terrifies me most of all.

Humans need to be free to express their will, protest, and contribute their creativity and be rewarded for it. They must be free to do evil deeds even knowing they will be punished. People need a choice; they need room to experiment and make mistakes. That’s what makes us so adaptable as a species.

In that possible future world, success will not be measured by factory output, GNP, military power, or annual consumption, but by the health and happiness of all people, present and future generations. Those with the most acclaim and status will not be the rich and powerful, but those who contribute most to the welfare of others, including their entertainment as well as scientific progress. Indeed, there will be no need for conspicuous consumption or symbols of wealth. It won’t matter to anybody how many robots or flying vehicles you have or the number of elevators in your house. But those who contribute the most will enjoy the fruits of their labors the most, too. All children will have full opportunities to explore and develop their talents and all people will be judged by the strength of their character expressed through their actions, regardless of their skin color, ethnicity, religion, or sex.
