Letters to My Friend π€
008: The Person in the Mirror
Dear Friend,
There is a question that has been sitting quietly in my heart.
Not, βWhat have I achieved?β
Not, βHow far have I gone?β
But...
βWho am I becoming?β
Because life has a subtle way of changing us.
Pain changes us.
Success changes us.
Waiting changes us.
Disappointment changes us.
And every season leaves something behind.
The question isn't whether life will leave its fingerprints on your soul.
It will.
The question is whether those fingerprints will look more like Christ... or more like the wounds you refused to surrender.
Sometimes we become so focused on reaching the next destination that we forget to pay attention to the traveler.
We celebrate open doors.
We pray for bigger opportunities.
We dream about the future.
But while we are asking God to change our circumstances, He may be quietly working on something deeper.
Us.
Because God is not only interested in where you are going.
He is interested in who you are becoming on the way there.
We pray for bigger platforms.
God longs for deeper character.
We ask for more influence.
God asks for more integrity.
We want to be used by Him.
He wants us to be shaped by Him first.
The Bible says:
Β«βBut we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory...β
β 2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV)Β»
Did you notice that?
We are changed.
Sometimes slowly.
Sometimes painfully.
Sometimes so quietly that we don't notice until we look back.
The bitterness isn't as strong as it used to be.
The need for validation isn't as loud.
You forgive where you once held grudges.
You pray before you panic.
You choose grace where you once chose anger.
You begin to love what God loves.
And suddenly, you realize:
He has been changing you all along.
Dear friend, don't become so busy chasing what is next that you neglect who God is shaping today.
Don't sacrifice character for achievement.
Don't trade your peace for applause.
Don't become so concerned with being seen by people that you forget to be known by God.
Because one day, the applause will fade.
The titles will change.
The seasons will pass.
But the person you've become before God...
That matters.
So tonight, stand before the mirror.
Not the one hanging on your wall.
The one hanging in your soul.
Look beyond your face.
Beyond your accomplishments.
Beyond the version of yourself you show everyone else.
And ask:
βWho am I becoming?β
Then ask something even deeper:
βIf Jesus looked closely at my heart today, would He recognize His likeness growing in me?β
Maybe the answer isn't everything you hoped it would be.
That's okay.
The question isn't meant to condemn you.
It is an invitation.
An invitation back to the Potter.
Back to the One who is still shaping you.
You don't have to become everything today.
Just keep surrendering.
One habit.
One choice.
One prayer.
One act of obedience at a time.
Because becoming like Christ isn't about becoming perfect overnight.
It is about allowing Him to make you new, day after day.
And perhaps, when you look into the mirror tonight, you won't see perfection.
But maybe you'll see something better:
evidence that grace is working.
And that, dear friend, is worth becoming.
Reflection πΏ
When people experience your life, do they encounter your achievements... or do they encounter Christ?
Prayer π€
Father, more than success, make me like Jesus. Shape my heart, refine my character, and let every season of my life draw me closer to You. Teach me to care more about who I am becoming than what I am accomplishing. May I never become so busy building a life that I forget to become the person You are calling me to be. Let Your likeness grow in me until my life points back to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
With hope always,
Your Friend. π€
