Memories
Memories are powerful windows into the past.
They can fill us with joy
or overwhelm us with grief.
Sometimes, they are moments in time
that we want to keep to ourselves;
other times, they are shared experiences.
And when we struggle to remember them,
it takes a village to fill in the gaps.
Because sometimes,
a life lived forward
can’t be fully understood backwards,
after all.
When we experience something,
neurons in our brains are activated,
and the memory is recorded.
But if we don’t revisit that memory,
the connections between those neurons
gradually weaken.
Over time, memories fade
because, just as the brain easily remembers,
it also forgets.
If we don’t take the time
to revisit our memories,
write them down,
and care for them,
we might wake up one day
to find that they have slowly wilted away.
Maybe that is why memories
are worth holding on to.
Not because we can stop ourselves
from forgetting,
but because we can choose
to remember a little longer.
What we see as a curse
could actually be a real asset.
We just need to figure out
how to use it to our advantage.
Everyone has a particular memory that can never fade away regardless
