The Museum of Illusion
poem

The Museum of Illusion

I walked through halls where mirrors knew my name,

Each doorway opened memories that came.

While shadows whispered in disguise.

A clock stood still, yet stole my time,

Its frozen hands obeyed no chime.

I touched a rose behind the glass,

And felt its fading silence pass.

A painted sky stretched overhead,

Where stitched clouds softly spread.

The stars hung low, so close, so bright,

They taught my lonely heart to light.

Our memories danced beneath silver light,

You held my hand through fading sight.

Though time had taught me to let go,

Your face remained in every show.

An empty room stood waiting there,

With unwritten endings everywhere.

A plaque beside the door declared:

“Nothing here is what it seems.”

I laughed, then cried beneath the light,

For love can vanish from our sight.

The greatest lie I ever knew

Was thinking love could cease when you

Walked away beyond my view,

Leaving behind what once was true.

At dawn, I left without a prize,

But carried wisdom in my eyes.

Some illusions break the heart apart,

While others teach the eyes of the heart.

Not every loss means love must die;

Some endings teach the soul to fly.
