DISCOVERING PURPOSE
Every human being was created for a reason. Your life is not an accident, and your existence is not meaningless. Before you were born, God already had a plan for your life.
The Bible says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).
Purpose is the reason for which a person exists. It answers the question, “Why am I here?” Discovering purpose means understanding God's intention for your life and using your gifts, abilities, opportunities, and experiences to fulfill it.
PURPOSE BEGINS WITH GOD
The first step in discovering purpose is recognizing that purpose comes from the Creator. A product cannot explain its purpose better than its manufacturer. In the same way, God knows why He created you better than anyone else.
Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” This shows that God's plan for our lives did not begin when we became aware of ourselves. He knew us before birth.
Therefore, discovering purpose begins with seeking God. Instead of asking only, “What do I want to become?” we should also ask, “Lord, what did You create me to accomplish?”
DISCOVER YOUR GIFTS
God has placed abilities and gifts in every person. Some people can teach, some can lead, some can encourage, some can create, while others are gifted in serving, organizing, communicating, or solving problems.
Romans 12:6 says, “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them.”
Your gifts can provide clues about your purpose. Pay attention to what you do naturally well, what you are passionate about, and how your abilities can benefit others.
However, having a gift is not enough. A gift must be developed and properly used. Timothy was encouraged to “stir up the gift of God” within him (2 Timothy 1:6).
PURPOSE IS BIGGER THAN PERSONAL SUCCESS
Many people confuse purpose with becoming rich, famous, or successful. While success can be part of someone's journey, biblical purpose goes much deeper.
Jesus said, “Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant” (Matthew 20:26).
True purpose involves making a difference. Your life should become a blessing to others. Your knowledge, resources, talents, and experiences should contribute positively to the lives of people around you.
Ask yourself:
★ Who am I called to serve?
★ What problem can I help solve?
★ What difference can my life make?
DO NOT FEAR THE PROCESS
Discovering purpose does not always happen instantly. Sometimes God reveals purpose gradually. Moses spent years in the wilderness before stepping into his assignment. David was anointed king long before he sat on the throne.
N/B: "Your present season may be preparing you for your future assignment."
Do not despise small beginnings. Zechariah 4:10 says, “For who has despised the day of small things?
Every experience, challenge, opportunity, and lesson can become part of God's preparation.
PRAY AND FOLLOW GOD'S DIRECTION
Purpose cannot be fully discovered through human wisdom alone. We need God's direction. Proverbs 3:5–6 teaches us to trust in the Lord and acknowledge Him, and He will direct our paths. Pray, study God's word, develop your gifts, seek wise counsel, serve faithfully and pay attention to the opportunities God places before you.
Most importantly, do not compare your journey with someone else's—"You have your own assignment."
Paul wrote, “I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). The goal is not to live another person's life but to faithfully complete the assignment God has given you.
In conclusion, you were created intentionally. There is something God has placed inside you that the world needs. Your purpose may not be revealed all at once, but as you walk with God, develop your gifts, serve others, and obey His direction, the path becomes clearer.
Do not spend your entire life asking, “What can I get from life?” Ask instead, “What did God create me to give?”
When you discover your purpose, you discover a reason to live, a direction to follow, and a legacy to leave behind. Your life has a purpose. Seek God, discover it, develop it, and fulfill it.
