THE DANGER OF COMPARING YOURSELF WITH OTHERS

In life, it is natural to look at other people and notice what they have achieved. We may see someone who is more successful, more talented, more confident, or seems to have a better life than ours. Sometimes, this can motivate us to work harder. However, when we constantly compare ourselves with others, it can become dangerous. Comparing yourself with others can make you forget your own value and stop you from appreciating your own journey.

Everyone has a different path in life. Two people may start at different places, face different challenges, and have different opportunities. Therefore, it is unfair to judge your progress by looking at someone else's progress. A person may achieve something at the age of twenty while another may achieve the same thing at thirty. This does not mean that one person is better than the other. Life is not a race where everyone must reach the finish line at the same time.

One of the greatest dangers of comparison is that it can destroy self-confidence. When you constantly look at what others have and feel that you do not have enough, you may begin to believe that you are not good enough. You may focus so much on another person's success that you fail to notice your own achievements. Even small progress is still progress, and it deserves to be appreciated.

Social media has also made comparison more common. People often post their happiest moments, achievements, beautiful pictures, celebrations, and exciting experiences online. When we see these things every day, we may think that everyone else is living a perfect life while we are struggling. But social media usually shows only a small part of someone's life. Behind a smiling picture, there may be difficulties, failures, worries, and challenges that we know nothing about. Comparing our real life with someone else's best moments can therefore give us a false picture.

Comparison can also create jealousy and unhealthy competition. Instead of being happy when someone succeeds, we may begin to feel unhappy or bitter. We may want to prove that we are better than them rather than focusing on becoming a better version of ourselves. This can damage friendships and relationships and take away the peace in our hearts.

The better choice is to use other people's success as inspiration, not as a reason to feel inferior. If someone is doing well, learn from their discipline, patience, and hard work. Ask yourself what you can improve instead of asking why you are not like them. Your greatest competition should be the person you were yesterday.

It is also important to remember that every person has something special. You may have talents that others do not have, and they may have strengths that you do not have. Instead of wishing to become someone else, discover your own abilities and develop them. Your journey may be slower, but that does not make it less meaningful.

Comparing yourself with others can steal your confidence, happiness, and peace of mind. Everyone has a different story, and every journey has its own timing. Do not measure your worth by another person's achievements. Be grateful for how far you have come, keep working toward your goals, and trust your journey. You do not need to be better than everyone else; you only need to become better than you were before.
