This new discovery changed our entire story.
Without much conversation, we both knew that we couldn't continue our relationship.
I was broken. I cried. I even tried harming myself. But the reality didn't change — we weren't compatible.
Moving on and detaching from Osivue was way harder than I had imagined. One moment, I was fine, and the next moment, I found myself relapsing into the pain.
I struggled to move on and stay sane. Honestly, it wasn't easy.
Aside from losing Osivue, another major fear I had was finding someone worthy of him.
I have always been selective and sensitive. I knew it would be difficult finding someone who truly matched my values. For me, physical attraction has never been enough; emotional compatibility has always mattered more.
Many nights, I cried. I missed Osivue so much. He was my best friend, and doing life without him seemed almost impossible.
I mourned that relationship for three solid years.
I met different guys in between, but none of them seemed to be it for me.
After my third year of being alone, I decided to open my heart again. At that point, I had accepted that maybe I couldn't find someone who was even half the person Osivue was.
I had made peace with that reality.
Little did I know that life was much bigger than what I had experienced and believed.
Chukwudi found me when I wasn't even actively searching. In fact, our friendship started in the most subtle way.
For the first time in a very long time, I found someone who perfectly matched my energy. Surprisingly, he connected with me even more deeply than Osivue did.
Thankfully, he felt the same way about me too.
We are currently together, and we are already a year gone, yet it still feels like day one.
Unapologetically, Chukwudi is everything I didn't even know I needed. He has qualities that even Osivue didn't have, and sometimes I find myself comparing the both of them.
Every time, Chukwudi reminds me that life can still surprise me.
One striking attribute about Chukwudi is his intentionality. I love how dedicated he is towards the people he calls his own. He carries this deep sense of responsibility that constantly leaves me in awe.
He doesn't just say he loves me; he shows it in the little things. He has gone out of his way several times just to make sure I am happy, comfortable, and reassured. He chooses me intentionally, makes me feel seen and heard, and loves me in a way that feels safe.
With him, I have experienced a kind of love that doesn't leave me questioning where I stand. He treats me like a queen, and sometimes I honestly find myself wondering if someone can truly be this good.
He is the kind of partner who keeps becoming better, and no matter how much I try, I can't seem to compete with his level of thoughtfulness.
Beyond everything else, he is one of the smartest and most intelligent young men I have ever come across. I am grateful to have someone I can admire, learn from, and grow with.
He is, indeed, the very best.
And to complement everything, he is AA.
From "Him" to Osivue and now to Chukwudi, every chapter has come with its own lesson.
I don't know where this new love will lead, but I now know and believe one thing:
It eventually gets better.
