Letters to My Friend π€
009: When Heaven Is Quiet
Dear Friend,
There is a kind of silence that unsettles the soul.
Not the peaceful silence of a quiet room.
I mean the silence that comes after you've prayed the same prayer for months.
The silence after you've cried, waited, hoped, and whispered, βLord, please.β
The silence when you open your Bible, searching desperately for an answer, but somehow close it with even more questions.
The kind of silence that eventually makes you wonder,
βLordβ¦ are You still here?β
Maybe you've wondered that too.
Maybe you've begun to question whether God hears you at all.
I've learned that God's silence is often misunderstood.
We assume silence means absence.
We assume that because we cannot hear Him, He must have moved away.
But Scripture tells us something different.
Joseph spent years in prison without understanding why his life had taken such a painful turn.
David was anointed king, yet spent years running for his life before he ever sat on the throne.
Lazarus lay in the grave for four days before Jesus arrived.
And in each story, God was present even when His presence wasn't obvious.
He was working in places they couldn't see.
Perhaps that's what makes waiting so difficult.
We want evidence.
We want movement.
We want something, anything that tells us God is doing something.
But sometimes faith is believing that God is working even when everything around you looks still.
The Bible says,
βBe still, and know that I am God...β
β Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
It doesn't say, βBe still and understand everything.β
It says, know.
Know that He is God.
Know that His character has not changed.
Know that His silence does not cancel His presence.
Dear friend, if Heaven feels quiet today, don't let your faith become quiet too.
Keep praying.
Even when your words feel repetitive.
Keep opening your Bible.
Even when you don't immediately find the answer you were looking for.
Keep showing up before God.
Even when all you can manage to say is, βLord, I'm still here.β
Because faith isn't always loud.
Sometimes faith looks like staying when you don't understand.
Sometimes it looks like trusting when you cannot trace His hand.
Sometimes it is simply choosing to believe that God's goodness has not disappeared just because His answer has not arrived.
And perhaps the silence isn't punishment.
Perhaps it isn't rejection.
Perhaps God is doing something deeper than giving you the answer you want.
Maybe He is preparing you for what you're praying for.
Maybe He is changing something in you before He changes something around you.
So, friend, breathe.
You don't have to understand everything today.
You only have to remember who God has been.
He was faithful before the silence.
He is faithful in the silence.
And He will still be faithful after it.
Don't mistake quietness for absence.
Heaven may feel quiet.
But God is not gone.
Reflection πΏ
When God seems silent, what does your heart choose to believe about Him?
Prayer π€
Father, when I cannot hear Your voice as clearly as I want to, help me remember Your faithfulness. When I don't understand Your timing, teach me to trust Your character. Keep my heart from interpreting Your silence as abandonment. Give me the grace to keep praying, keep believing, and keep walking with You even when I cannot see what You are doing. Let my faith grow deeper in the quiet places. And when I feel alone, remind me that You have never left me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
With hope always,
Your Friend. π€
