SIN: THE ROAD TO ETERNAL DESTRUCTION

Although sin may seem appealing in the short term, it can have damaging and painful long-term consequences. It can bring a person joy, freedom and satisfaction, but it can also cause a person to stray from God. Because sin can impact our relationship with our Creator and can impact all aspects of our lives, sin should not be taken lightly.

It is evident in the Bible that sin has consequences. In Romans 6:23 it says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.” This is a reminder of the gravity of sin, but also of God's great mercy. Although sin leads to destruction, God has provided a way of salvation through Jesus Christ.

One of the greatest dangers of sin is deception. Sin is not usually something threatening. It can start with a little lie, with jealousy, hatred, pride, disobedience, greed, and other bad decisions. With repeated actions these can turn into habits. Over time, an individual could rationalize the wrong and even lose of the ability to realize that what they are doing is serious.

The peace and joy of living in God's plan can also be lost due to sin. It can wreck relationships, lead to loss of trust, guilt and cause issues that can impact the person and others. Things that may seem fun in the moment can cause remorse down the road. So, let us think beyond the fleeting moment of pleasures and the result of our decisions.

But the gospel of Christ is not just the message of judgment. It's also a story of hope, mercy, forgiveness and redemption. God does not wish for people to be in sin. He invites people to repent and to be forgiven for their sins in Jesus Christ. Repentance is a change of mind: to turn away from sin and turn to God.

God's mercy is there to give them a new chance to start again no matter how far they may have strayed. A person can turn away from the wrong way and go back to God and seek His guidance. By faith in Christ, people can live a new life and find forgiveness.

Everyone takes decisions daily. There are some options that draw us nearer to God, and some that draw us further away from Him. We must, therefore, be careful of our company, the things that we put into our minds and the decisions that we make. We must not let our temporary pleasures be our guiding force in our eternal path.

The object of sin is to offer pleasure, but it cannot deliver the same kind of peace and satisfaction that can only be found in God. Its implications are far-reaching but God's grace is even greater. The answer is not to keep on in sin but to flee from sin, and go to God.

So let not sin reign in your mortal bodies. A tiny bit of compromise can have major implications. Select good over evil, submission over insubordination and God over fleeting gratification. Sin brings destruction, but Jesus Christ brings forgiveness, salvation, and life eternal to God. Take the road of life.
