CANCER DOESN’T KNOCK. BUT YOU CAN BE READY.

CANCER DOESN’T KNOCK. BUT YOU CAN BE READY.

Let’s talk about something we don’t like talking about.

Cancer.

We whisper it. We say "that sickness". We pray "God forbid" and quickly change the topic.

But silence won’t save us. Information will.

*1. WHAT EVEN IS CANCER?*

Cancer is not a curse. It’s not a death sentence.

It’s when some cells in the body start growing the wrong way. Instead of stopping, they keep multiplying and can spread to other parts.

It can happen to anyone. Rich or poor. Young or old. Man or woman.

Breast cancer. Cervical cancer. Prostate cancer. Colon cancer. Childhood cancer.

The names are many, but the truth is one: *Early detection saves lives.*

*2. WHY ARE WE LOSING PEOPLE?*

If we’re honest, 3 things are killing us more than cancer itself:

1. *Fear* - "If I check and they see something, what will I do?" So we don’t check at all.

2. *Shame* - "My breast is paining me but I can’t tell anyone." "That place is itching me but it’s embarrassing."

3. *"It’s not my portion"* - We pray, which is good. But faith without action is dangerous. You pray against accident, but you still wear seatbelt right?

By the time some people go to hospital, the cancer has already spread. And that’s when it becomes very hard to treat.

*3. SIGNS YOU SHOULD NEVER IGNORE*

Your body usually talks before cancer shouts. Please listen:

*For Women:*

- A lump in the breast or under the armpit

- Change in breast size, shape, or skin

- Unusual bleeding or discharge

- Persistent pain that won’t go away

*For Men:*

- Trouble urinating or blood in urine - check prostate

- A lump in the testicle

- Persistent cough or blood when you cough - check lungs

*For Everyone:*

- A sore that won’t heal

- Unusual bleeding

- Thickening or lump anywhere in the body

- Indigestion or trouble swallowing that stays for weeks

- Obvious change in a wart or mole

- Nagging cough or hoarseness

- Sudden weight loss without trying

One sign doesn’t mean cancer. But 2 weeks of ignoring it? That’s dangerous. Go and check.

*4. HOW DO WE FIGHT BACK?*

The good news is: *Many cancers can be prevented. And many can be treated if caught early.*

Here’s what we can do:

1. *Screen early.* Women: do breast self-exam every month. Go for mammogram and pap smear. Men: check your prostate after 40. It’s 5 minutes that can save 50 years.

2. *Live cleaner.* Stop smoking. Drink less alcohol. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Exercise. Your body is not a dustbin.

3. *Vaccinate.* The HPV vaccine prevents cervical cancer. Please, for your daughters and sons, ask your doctor about it.

4. *Sun protection.* That skin cream is not vanity. Too much sun damages skin and can cause skin cancer.

5. *Talk.* If you feel something, say something. Tell your sister. Tell your husband. Go to the hospital.

*5. TO THE ONE FIGHTING RIGHT NOW*

I see you.

To the woman doing chemo and still tying her gele.

To the man who lost his hair but not his smile.

To the child in the hospital bed who just wants to go home and play.

You are not alone. You are not a burden. You are not "that cancer patient".

You are a fighter. And we are fighting with you.

Check on your people. Donate blood. Donate money. Donate prayers. Donate your time.

*FINAL WORD*

Cancer doesn’t knock. It doesn’t send a text that "I’m coming next Tuesday".

But you can be ready.

Check yourself.

Check your loved ones.

Speak up. Show up.

Because early detection is the difference between "we caught it early" and "I wish we knew earlier."

Let’s stop whispering. Let’s start checking.

Let’s stop fearing. Let’s start acting.

Your life is worth that hospital visit.

Your life is worth that conversation.

Your life is worth it.

It is also the fear after diagnosis that kills the most, it's a bitter experience.
