Things Life Quietly Taught Me (Episode 3) - Some People Feel Like Sunshine

I've met intelligent people.

I've met funny people.

I've met interesting people.

But every once in a while, you meet someone who simply makes life feel lighter.

They don't have to be loud.

They don't have to be available every minute.

They don't even have to be your closest friend.

There's just something about them.

One conversation with them can completely change the direction of your day.

I used to think relationships were built on grand gestures.

Now I think they're built on small moments.

A random check-in.

A shared joke.

A conversation that leaves you smiling long after you've put your phone away.

Those moments look ordinary while they're happening.

It's only later that you realize they quietly became memories.

I've also noticed that these people rarely know the effect they have on others. They don't wake up every morning thinking about changing someone's day. They simply show up as themselves. They laugh easily. They listen without making everything about themselves. They make space for other people to be comfortable.

I think that's a rare gift.

The older I get, the more I appreciate people who make life feel lighter instead of heavier. Life is already full of deadlines, responsibilities, disappointments and things we can't control. So when you come across someone whose presence makes you forget all of that, even if it's just for a few minutes, you begin to understand how valuable that kind of person is.

And the beautiful thing is, it isn't always about what they do.

Sometimes, it's simply how they make you feel.

You leave the conversation smiling without knowing exactly why.

You replay a joke they made hours later and laugh all over again.

You find yourself looking forward to talking to them, not because you have something important to discuss, but because you know you'll leave the conversation feeling better than you started.

I don't think we say "thank you" enough to people like that.

Maybe because they make it look so effortless.

Maybe because we assume they'll always be that way.

But I hope they know that their kindness, their humour and their presence don't go unnoticed.

I've also started asking myself a different question.

Not just, "Who feels like sunshine to me?"

But also, "Do I feel like sunshine to someone else?"

Do people leave conversations with me feeling encouraged?

Do they smile after we've talked?

Do I make life a little lighter for the people around me?

I don't ask those questions because I want to be perfect.

I ask them because I think that's the kind of person I want to become.

Maybe that's why I no longer chase perfect relationships.

I simply appreciate people who make ordinary days feel a little less ordinary.

Because in a world where everyone is rushing somewhere, finding someone who brings you peace instead of pressure is a gift.

Not everyone changes your life dramatically.

Some people simply make it brighter.

And honestly...

Sometimes that's enough.

And so, do you feel like Sunshine to others?
