Living with Intention

“It’s never too late to become what you could have been.”—George Eliot

Are you apprehensive that your life's purpose might turn out to be tedious or overwhelming? What if it becomes tiring or repetitive? What if it demands more time, energy, or commitment than you’re able to give?

Numerous individuals experience unease or reluctance regarding the idea of a life calling. Perhaps you share this sentiment. Are you concerned that possessing a life purpose implies yielding to a greater force and relinquishing control over your time?

Do you fear that your life purpose could be something unenjoyable or burdensome? What if it becomes exhausting or monotonous? What if it requires more than you can afford in time, energy, or dedication?

Such fears are entirely unfounded. If you were to survey all individuals across the globe who feel they are fulfilling their genuine life purpose, I believe they would collectively express: “I am so HAPPY.”

Anyone who ventures to pursue their life purpose describes the experience as akin to “returning home” or “engaging in what I was meant to do.” They participate in what is most significant to them, relish it wholeheartedly, and it seamlessly fits into the broader tapestry of their existence.

While it’s true that certain sacrifices may occasionally be necessary, you might discover that these are not excessively challenging or painful. In reality, they can be liberating once you release your apprehension and uncertainty.

Please do not fret about the idea that pursuing your purpose requires you to relinquish command over your life. You maintain control over your life regardless of having a purpose! In fact, I encourage you to embrace a refreshed perspective on your life: one of “living with purpose” as opposed to “possessing a purpose.”

Living with intention involves SELECTING your purpose. Deciding how to allocate your time. Determining how to utilize your inherent abilities to foster greater joy and significance for yourself and others.

Even if you perceive your life purpose as predetermined, this new perspective can still benefit you because you will naturally opt for the path that has already been charted for you.

Do You Really Need a Purpose?

For those individuals who, as mentioned earlier, do not concern themselves with the notion of having a life purpose, you might ponder the reason behind all the excitement. Is having a life purpose truly essential?

Some would argue that everyone possesses a purpose, whether or not they are aware of it. However, is it negative to lack awareness of a higher calling in life? What if you find satisfaction with your current life situation? Must you develop an ambitious purpose to feel fulfilled and make a positive impact on the world?

No. It is not necessary for you to have a distinct aim in life unless you sense that something is lacking. If you are satisfied with your current situation, then you are on the right track. You might either already be fulfilling your purpose, or perhaps you simply do not feel the urge to have one. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Nonetheless, since you are perusing this message, it might indicate that you are in search of something, even if you wouldn’t label it as a genuine “calling.” Perhaps you just desire increased enthusiasm, significance, enjoyment, guidance, or various other attributes.

A life purpose (or engaging in life with intention) can certainly offer those experiences and much more.
