I Got Lost on the Way Home
It was a Friday evening, and I was going home after visiting my friend. The air was warm and the sky was turning orange as the sun was going down. I had been to his house many times, so I wasn't worried about finding my way home.
When I left his house, the street was still busy. Cars were blowing their horns, people were talking and I could smell the food from a nearby food seller. I entered a bus and got down at a place that looked familiar. From there, I decided to walk home because I thought it would not take long.
At first, everything was fine.
But after about ten minutes, I noticed something was wrong.
I stopped and looked around. The shops looked strange and I didn't know any of the houses. The road was also much quieter than the one I knew.
I thought I had taken the wrong road, so I turned back.
After walking for a few minutes, I got even more confused. I couldn't even remember the road I had just passed.
My heart started beating fast.
I brought out my phone to call my mother, but the battery was on 2%. I quickly called her.
The call did not go through.
I tried again, but nothing happened.
Then my phone went off.
I stood there looking at the black screen. The wind was blowing the leaves in the trees. I could hear a dog barking somewhere far away.
I started to feel scared.
I saw a small shop ahead with a light outside. An old man was sitting near the shop, so I went to him and asked for directions.
He looked at me and pointed down a small road.
“Go straight and you will reach the main road,” he said.
I thanked him and started walking.
The road became quieter. Most of the shops were closed and there were not many people around. I could hear my shoes hitting the dusty road.
Then I heard footsteps behind me.
I stopped.
The footsteps stopped too.
I slowly looked back.
Nobody was there.
I told myself not to be scared and continued walking. I started walking faster.
Then I heard the footsteps again.
This time they sounded closer.
I didn't look back. I just kept walking until I saw bright car lights ahead. I could hear cars and people again.
I ran towards the road.
When I got there, I felt much better. There were many cars, buses and motorcycles moving around.
A bus was coming, so I stopped it and asked the driver if he knew my area.
He said yes.
I entered the bus and sat near the window. The cool air touched my face as the bus moved.
Then I saw something I knew.
It was a football field close to my house.
I was very happy. I had been walking around for almost an hour, and I was actually close to home.
When I finally reached my street, I saw my mother standing outside.
“Where have you been?” she asked.
She looked very worried.
I told her everything that happened. She was angry at first, but she was also happy that I had returned safely.
That night, I kept thinking about what happened. I could still remember the quiet road and the footsteps behind me.
I learned that getting lost can happen even when you think you know a place well. I also learned that it is important to keep your phone charged when you are going out.
Most importantly, I learned not to panic when things go wrong. Staying calm can help you find your way out of a difficult situation.
