YOUR CHOICES TODAY SHAPE YOUR DESTINY TOMORROW

Each one of us can make a positive difference in our lives. We are not responsible for all the things that are going on surrounding us, but we can control many of our choices. What we do today will affect our future, although it might be a little insignificant at the moment. That's why it's important to realize that your decisions now will have an impact on your future.

There are a lot of decisions in life. Our choices, who to be friends with, what to learn, how to live our lives, what to do and what we aim for are the result. Some options might give instant gratification, some may take time and sacrifice. The wise know that not all good decisions have an immediate payoff. At times the best decisions are the ones that lead to a better future.

For instance, taking your time to learn instead of wasted on entertainment can help improve your future, as does a student who decides to study instead of doing everything that isn't study. A person that decides to learn a skill that will be useful, has a good character, and works hard is investing in the future. Meanwhile, making bad decisions on a regular basis can cause issues that could impact the future.

We are also the kind of persons that we become as a result of what we do. When we make a habit of being honest, disciplined, kind, responsible and persistent, these traits become inculcated into our nature. Similarly, bad habits become hard to stop if we continue to select them. Thus, each decision creates the person that we want to be.

Also, we must never let our past failures dictate the rest of our lives. We all make mistakes and making the wrong selection is certainly not the end of the world. The key is gaining insight from the experience and making better decisions post-experience. If we are ready to learn from a poor decision, then it can be a priceless lesson.

Sometimes, individuals attribute their situation, other individuals or their background to be the cause of their experience. The importance of personal responsibility should not be underestimated, although circumstances can affect us. We can't select where we go first, but we can select where we go second.

The only thing successful things do not happen by chance. It can be the cumulative effect of a lot of little, but steady, decisions over time. Adopting the discipline over laziness, preparation over excuses, patience over impatience, and perseverance over giving up, can lead a person little by little closer to their goals.

So, take time to carefully consider major decisions. Think, "Will this decision help achieve the person I want to be? Not every opportunity must be a “yes” and not every temptation is for you to look. Develop the ability to make decisions according to values, goals and future, not according to temporary feelings.

Keep in mind, your future is being created as you make decisions every day. Think carefully, work hard, be disciplined and never stop learning. The path to success is never easy, but with every positive choice you make, you are moving closer to the life you want.

What you sow today will be harvested tomorrow, your decisions today will be the fruit of your choices tomorrow. Be careful, the future you are awaiting might be the one that you create with the choices you make today.
