THE GENTLE ELEPHANT
Across the golden savannah,
Where the tall green grasses sway,
Walks an elephant so slowly,
Starting out another day.
He is big and strong and mighty,
With two tusks so bright and white,
And two ears that flap like curtains
In the warm and sunny light.
His long trunk reaches the branches,
Picking leaves from trees so tall.
He can use it like a straw,
When he needs a drink at all.
When the afternoon gets hotter,
He will find a muddy pool,
Splashing water on his body,
Cooling down beneath the sun.
Baby elephants stay near him,
Following wherever he goes.
They walk safely with their family,
Protected wherever the herd roams.
Though he looks so mighty,
He is gentle, calm, and kind.
He remembers all his family,
Keeping everyone in mind.
When the evening sky turns orange,
And the birds begin to sing,
He walks slowly toward the sunset,
Like a peaceful king.
Elephants may be enormous,
But their hearts can still be sweet.
They teach us that being gentle
Makes a giant great.
So whenever you see an elephant
Walking proudly through the land,
Remember this gentle giant
And the kindness in his heart.
