Before you can give it, you must possess it; and many people fail to impress Thinking Material since they themselves have only a nebulous and hazy idea of the things they want to accomplish, possess, or be. A general desire for money "to do good with" is insufficient; everyone has it.
It is not sufficient that you wish to travel, experience new things, live life more fully, and so forth. Those aspirations are also held by everyone. If you were going to send a wireless message to a friend, you would not send the letters of the alphabet in their order, and let him construct the message for himself; nor would you take words at random from the dictionary. You would send a cohesive statement that was meaningful. Keep in mind that you must articulate your wants in a coherent manner when attempting to make an impact on Substance; you must be certain of your goals. By expressing vague desires and unshaped longings, one can never grow affluent or ignite the creative force into action. Nor is it necessary to perform occult tricks of any sort, nor to "go into the quiet," nor to set aside special times for prayer and affirmation, nor to engage in concentration exercises. However, all you need to do is identify what you want and desire it enough for it to stay on your mind.
Spend as much leisure time as you can contemplating your picture, but no one needs to do exercises to focus their thoughts on something they truly desire; it is the things you don't really care about that need effort to keep your attention on them.
And unless you genuinely wish to become wealthy, so that the desire is strong enough to maintain your attention on the goal in the same way that the magnetic pole maintains the needle of a compass, it will scarcely be worth your while to attempt to follow the instructions in this book.
The techniques described herein are for individuals whose desire for money is so great that it overcomes mental sloth and a passion for comfort and encourages them to put forth effort.
The easier it will be to focus your mind on the image of what you want, the more vivid and precise your image is, and the more you think about it, bringing out all of its wonderful elements, the stronger your desire will be. But in order to see the picture plainly, something more is required. You are only a dreamer if you restrict yourself to that, and you will have little to no power for achievement.
Your distinct vision must be accompanied by the intention to make it a reality and manifest it in concrete terms. And supporting this goal must be an unshakable and unyielding FAITH that the item is already yours; that it is "at hand" and all you have to do is claim it.
Mentally live in the new home until it physically materializes around you. Immediately enter the mental realm and fully experience the things you desire. Jesus said, "Believe that you will get what you ask for in prayer, and you will have it."
Imagine the items you desire to be constantly present around you, and picture yourself owning and using them. Utilize them in your imagination as if they were your real possessions. Take the Mental Attitude of Ownership over everything in your mental image after you've spent some time dwelling on it until it's clean and distinct.
In your thoughts, claim it with the complete conviction that it is truly yours. Keep this mental ownership; never doubt for a moment that it is real. And recall what was said in a previous chapter about gratitude; always be as thankful for it as you anticipate being when it has materialized. The individual who has genuine faith is the one who can genuinely express gratitude to God for the things that he currently possesses solely in his thoughts. He'll become wealthy; he'll make whatever he wants to be made.
You don't need to beg for what you want over and over again; there's no need to tell God about it every day. Jesus told his pupils, "Do not use empty repetitions like the Gentiles do, because your Father knows that you require these things before you ask Him."
You must wisely express your wish for a more fulfilling life, arrange these wishes into a cohesive entire, and then imprint this whole desire onto the Formless Substance, which possesses the ability and the will to grant you what you want.
You make this impression by upholding the vision with unwavering PURPOSE to attain it and steadfast FAITH that you will attain it, not by saying the same things repeatedly.
It's not about how much faith you have when you're speaking that determines how your prayers are answered, but rather how much faith you have when you're working.
You can't impress God by setting aside a specific Sabbath to declare your demands to Him and then forgetting about Him for the remainder of the week. You can't impress Him by setting aside special periods to enter your closet and pray, if you then forget about the issue until the hour of prayer comes again.
