When the winds rise up and the waters start to swell,
when the sky turns dark and the thunder starts to roar,
when fear creeps in like a slow, familiar spell,
I will trust You, Lord, even when I can't see the shore.
I don't know why the storm had to come this way,
why the waves feel higher than my faith can climb,
but I remember You were faithful yesterday,
and You will not abandon me this time.
The disciples cried out when the sea began to rage,
"Do You not care that we are about to drown?"
But You stood calm upon that trembling stage,
and with a single word, the storm bowed down.
So even now, when my own boat starts to shake,
when the waves of worry crash against my mind,
I choose to trust the hands that hold, that never break,
the God who calms the storm and calms mankind.
I may not understand the reason for this rain,
the purpose hidden deep behind this heavy cloud,
but I know You turn my ashes into gain,
and even in the dark, Your voice is clear and loud.
So let the thunder roar, let the lightning flash and fall,
let the waters rise as high as they may reach,
I will lift my eyes above it all,
for You are still the Master over sea and speech.
Not because the storm has passed, or the skies have turned to blue,
but because I know who holds tomorrow, and I know that He is true.
So I will trust You, Lord, in the wind and in the rain,
for faith was never meant to live where storms could never reign.
