Letters to My Friend š¤
22 ā I Hope You Notice
Dear Friend,
I hope you notice.
Not the big things.
Not the photographs where everyone says you've changed.
Not just the achievements you can proudly point to.
I'm talking about the little things.
The way you don't cry about that thing as much anymore.
The way you finally stopped checking their page.
The way you said no without spending three hours feeling guilty about it.
The way you prayed about something that used to make you panic.
The way you can now walk away from things you once begged to keep.
The way you survived a season you once thought would destroy you.
I hope you notice.
Because you've been so busy asking,
"How much further do I have to go?"
that you haven't stopped to ask,
"How far have I already come?"
You keep calling yourself behind.
But, friend...
Behind whom?
You keep looking at someone else's chapter and apologising for the pace of your own story.
Maybe you don't need to run.
Maybe you need to look back.
Not to live there.
Not to romanticise the past.
Just long enough to realise that the person who once begged God for the strength to survive this season...
is you.
And you're still here.
That matters.
Maybe growth isn't always becoming unrecognisable. Maybe sometimes it's becoming familiar with yourself again.
The quieter you.
The softer you.
The wiser you.
The you who knows when to speak and when to walk away.
The you who no longer needs to prove that you're worthy of being loved.
The you who is learning that resting doesn't mean you're lazy and slowing down doesn't mean you've failed.
The you who can finally say,
"I am still becoming, but I am no longer who I used to be."
And somewhere in all of this, God has been writing too.
Not loudly.
Not always with fireworks.
Sometimes just in the margins.
A little grace here.
A little strength there.
A closed door.
An answered prayer.
An unanswered one.
A goodbye.
A beginning.
A lesson you didn't ask for but needed.
And perhaps the most beautiful thing about your story is that God was present even in the chapters you didn't understand.
There were days you thought He was silent, but He was still there.
There were moments you thought you were losing everything, yet somehow, grace kept carrying you.
"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning..."
ā Lamentations 3:22ā23 (KJV)
So tonight, before you decide you're not doing enough...
Pause.
Look at yourself gently.
Look at the prayers you've survived.
Look at the habits you've outgrown.
Look at the things that no longer have the same power over you.
You made it through things you never thought you'd survive.
And maybe you haven't arrived yet.
Maybe there is still so much growing, healing, learning, and becoming ahead of you.
But you're not where you used to be.
So, friend...
I hope you notice.
I hope you give yourself permission to celebrate the quiet victories too.
Because sometimes the greatest evidence that God has been faithful isn't found in how far you have left to go.
It's in how far grace has already brought you.
And perhaps...
that's worth being grateful for.
Reflection šæ
If the younger version of you could see who you are today, what do you think they would thank you for?
