THE LATTER GLORY
Biblical Text: Haggai 2:9 “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.”
The latter glory refers to the greater glory, honour, beauty, and blessings that God can bring into our lives after a period of difficulty, disappointment, or humble beginnings. It reminds us that our present condition does not determine our final destination when we trust in God. No matter how difficult the beginning may be, God is able to make the end greater than the beginning.
In Haggai 2:1–9, God spoke through the prophet Haggai to encourage the people of Israel who were rebuilding the temple after their return from captivity. Some of the older people remembered the former temple built by Solomon and were discouraged because the new temple appeared less glorious. However, God assured them that the glory of the latter house would be greater than that of the former. He promised to be with them and to fill His house with glory. We should not judge God's work by its present appearance. What looks small today can become great tomorrow through His power.
GOD CAN CHANGE OUR STORY
The latter glory reveals God's ability to transform situations. Job experienced severe suffering and loss, but God eventually restored him. Job 42:10 tells us that the Lord turned his captivity and gave him twice as much as he had before.
This does not mean that every believer will receive double material possessions. Rather, Job's story demonstrates that suffering does not prevent God from bringing restoration, renewed hope, and blessing. Therefore, do not allow your present challenges to make you lose faith in God.
DO NOT DESPISE SMALL BEGINNINGS
Zechariah 4:10 asks, “For who hath despised the day of small things?” Every great achievement often begins with small steps. A ministry may begin with only a few members, a business with little capital, or a personal dream with limited resources. However, with God's help, patience, wisdom, and diligence, these beginnings can develop into something meaningful. Instead of comparing yourself with others, remain faithful in the place where God has planted you. Small beginnings are not signs of failure; they can be opportunities for growth.
THE LATTER GLORY REQUIRES FAITH AND OBEDIENCE
Although God promises His presence and help, believers must continue to walk in faith and obedience. James 2:17 teaches that faith without works is dead. We must pray, study God's Word, serve faithfully, and take responsible steps towards the future we desire.
We should also remember that God's glory is not measured only by wealth, popularity, or outward success. A transformed character, deeper fellowship with God, spiritual maturity, and a life that honours Christ are also signs of His work in us.
KEEP YOUR HOPE IN GOD
Ecclesiastes 7:8 says, “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof.” This verse encourages patience and perseverance. Do not give up because your journey is difficult. Continue trusting God, even when you cannot see the results immediately.
In conclusion, the latter glory is a message of hope, restoration, and confidence in God's faithfulness. Your present situation may not be what you desire, but it does not have to be the end of your story. Remain faithful, reject discouragement, and trust God's wisdom and timing. Above all, seek His glory rather than merely earthly success. May your life continually reflect the goodness, grace, and glory of God. Amen!
STAY BLESSED!!!
