THE BILLIONAIRE’S SECRET BRIDE

CHAPTER TWO — THE RULES OF THE MARRIAGE

Amara stared at the document in front of her.

Her signature was still fresh.

Six months.

That was all.

Six months of pretending to be Daniel Kingsley’s wife, and then she would walk away with ₦20 million.

Enough to pay for her mother’s surgery.

Enough to change her life.

At least, that was what she kept telling herself.

Daniel picked up the agreement and placed it inside a black leather folder.

“Good,” he said calmly. “Now we can discuss the rules.”

Amara folded her arms.

“Rules?”

“Yes.”

He leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable.

“Rule number one: Our marriage remains completely private.”

“Fine.”

“Rule number two: You will move into my house tonight.”

Amara’s eyes widened.

“Tonight?”

“Yes.”

“I thought this was just an arrangement.”

“It is.”

“Then why do I have to live with you?”

Daniel looked at her for a moment.

“Because my grandfather’s lawyers are already watching me. If they discover we're living separately, the marriage will look suspicious.”

Amara sighed.

“Fine. What's rule number three?”

“No one can know you're being paid to marry me.”

She nodded.

“That won't be a problem.”

Daniel stood up.

“One more thing.”

“What?”

His eyes met hers.

“No falling in love.”

Amara almost laughed.

“Trust me, Mr. Kingsley. Falling in love with you is the last thing I'm planning to do.”

For the first time, a tiny smile appeared on Daniel's lips.

“We agree on something.”

---

That evening, Amara stood in front of the enormous Kingsley mansion with two suitcases.

She looked at the house.

It was beautiful.

Too beautiful.

The kind of place she had only seen in movies.

A house that belonged to someone who could spend her entire university tuition on a single dinner.

Daniel walked past her.

“You coming?”

She followed him inside.

A housekeeper immediately approached them.

“Welcome home, Mrs. Kingsley.”

Amara froze.

Mrs. Kingsley.

The words sounded strange.

Daniel noticed her expression but said nothing.

The housekeeper smiled.

“Your room is ready.”

“Her room?” Amara asked.

Daniel glanced at her.

“Yes.”

“Separate rooms?”

“You expected us to share?”

Amara's face turned red.

“No! I was just asking.”

Daniel smirked.

“Relax. I'm not interested in making this arrangement more complicated than it already is.”

Amara rolled her eyes.

“Good.”

She picked up her suitcase and walked toward the staircase.

But before she could take another step, Daniel's phone rang.

He answered.

His expression changed almost immediately.

“What do you mean she's coming tomorrow?”

Amara stopped.

Daniel listened silently.

Then he said,

“Don't tell her anything.”

He ended the call.

Amara turned around.

“Who was that?”

“No one.”

“You looked worried.”

“I said it was nothing.”

She stared at him suspiciously.

Daniel walked away.

But neither of them noticed the black car parked outside the mansion.

Inside the car, a woman lowered her sunglasses.

She stared at the mansion with a cold smile.

“So this is the woman Daniel married?”

She opened her phone.

A photograph of Amara appeared on the screen.

The woman smiled.

“Let's see how long your little marriage lasts.”

She pressed call.

“I'm ready.”

A man's voice answered from the other end.

“Are you sure?”

She smiled.

“Absolutely.”

Her eyes remained fixed on the mansion.

“Daniel Kingsley is going to regret marrying her.”
