"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:7
There is a peace that has no need for the world to hold its breath,
a stillness that arrives while the storm is still outside,
a calm that settles gently in the shadow of the death
of every fear that told you there was nowhere left to hide.
It does not wait for answers, it does not wait for proof,
it does not ask for circumstances to align or to agree,
it simply makes a dwelling underneath the weary roof
of hearts that choose to trust, though they cannot yet see.
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you." — John 14:27
The world gives peace in pieces, when the bills are paid on time,
when the body is not aching and the people are all kind,
but the peace that Heaven offers has a different kind of rhyme,
it stays when things are broken, it stays when you are blind.
I have searched for it in noise, in crowds, in constant motion,
I have searched for it in titles, and in things I wished to own,
but it was never found in all the chasing and devotion,
it was waiting in the quiet, where I finally sat alone.
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." — Isaiah 26:3
So I lay down my worry like a burden at the door,
I loosen all my grasping on the things I can't control,
I breathe in grace and mercy, and I breathe out nothing more
than the quiet, simple trust that He is making me whole.
Peace is not the absence of the struggle or the strain,
it is the Presence in the middle, steady, kind, and near,
a hand that holds me gently through the thunder and the rain,
a voice that says, "I'm with you, child. There is nothing here to fear."
