THE QUIET PAIN WE ALL HIDE
Why pretend to be strong when you are weak
Strength doesn't come from pretence it comes from being you
There's no award for most strongest person. It's strength to also admit weaknesses
Everybody is going through something that they are not talking about. If you look at people outside, they will be smiling and laughing, but inside of them, they are fighting a battle that nobody knows about. That is what is called quiet pain.
Quiet pain is different from normal pain. When someone have a physical pain like injury, people see it and ask what happened to you. But this quiet pain is inside. It can be sadness, disappointment, fear, or feeling like you're are not good enough. It cannot be shown to everybody because they feel people will not understand them or they will laugh.
One reason why people hide their pain is because they want to look strong. Especially in this society, they tell us that you have to be strong, you should not show weakness. So even when someone is hurting inside, they just pretend that everything is fine. They say "I am fine" but deep down they are not fine at all. They do this so that people will not see them as weak.
Another reason is because we feel that no one will really understand. Sometimes when you try to open up to someone, they will say "is that why you are worrying yourself" or "take it easy . So after that, you will just decide to keep everything to yourself because you feel they don't get it.
But the truth is, hiding pain all the time is not healthy. It makes one feel heavy inside. It can make someone get angry easily or to be tired of everything. That is why we need to find a safe way to release it. For some , it is by writing it down. For some, it is by praying, or talking to one person they trust very well, or just crying when nobody is there. Any way that helps you to feel lighter is okay.
What I have learnt is that everybody has quiet pain. The rich man, the poor man, the student, even the teacher that is teaching. Nobody is free from it. So instead of judging people quickly, just should try to be more kind. Because you don't know what that person is hiding behind the smile. That person that is always rude in class might be going through something at home. That person that is always quiet might be fighting depression. We will never know.
So my conclusion is this, it is okay not to be okay sometimes. It is okay to feel sad and not have explanation for it. But the way forward is trying not stay in that pain forever. We should try to heal. And we should also learn to check on people, not just the normal "how are you" but really check on them and listen to them.
