WHEN GOD SAID "WAIT" BUT I HEARD "NO"

WHEN GOD SAID "WAIT" BUT I HEARD "NO"

I was so sure it was my time.

The job interview went perfectly. The boss smiled. They said “we’ll call you.”

I told everybody. Mum, my friend, my prayer group.

“I’ve gotten the job,” I said. I could already see myself in that office.

Two weeks passed. No call.

Three weeks. I started calling. “We’re still reviewing applications.”

By the fourth week, they hired someone else.

I broke down.

God, why? I prayed. I fasted. I even sowed seed. Was I not good enough?

For the next 2 months I was angry. At God. At myself. At everyone who got good news while I was stuck.

I stopped going to church early. I stopped praying with faith. I was just going through motions.

Then one Tuesday, my younger brother called me crying.

“Sis, I got admission but we don’t have school fees. The deadline is Friday.”

The amount? Exactly the salary of that job I didn’t get.

I didn’t have it. But 3 days later, an old client I hadn’t spoken to in a year sent me a contract.

“Can you handle this urgently? Pay is good.”

I did it. I made the exact money for my brother’s fees.

Friday evening, I paid it. He resumed on Monday.

That night I sat in my room and God whispered something that changed me:

“My ‘wait’ was not a ‘no’. It was a ‘not yet, because I have someone else who needs you first.’”

I cried again. But this time, not from pain. From shame.

Shame that I thought God forgot me just because my timeline was different.

That job would have taken me to another city. 9-6, no time.

I would have missed my brother’s admission window.

I would have missed the chance to be the reason he didn’t drop out.

God wasn’t denying me. He was positioning me.

Six months later, a better job came. Better pay. Remote. I could still help at home.

And by then, my brother was already settled in school.

Here’s what I learned:

1. *God’s delay is not denial.* Sometimes He’s protecting you from a good thing to give you a God thing.

2. *Your story is connected to other people.* That “no” might be someone else’s “yes” through you.

3. *Don’t interpret waiting as abandonment.* The same God who told you to wait is the one preparing the table.

I used to think waiting was wasting.

Now I know waiting is working.

God is working on me. Working on the situation. Working on the people connected to my blessing.

So if you’re in a waiting season, don’t quit.

Don’t assume no.

Don’t despise small doors.

The job I didn’t get broke my heart.

But the brother I helped pay for kept it.

And I’d choose that over and over again.

Because God doesn’t waste seasons.

He uses them.

It profits to follow God's plan for your life and destiny
