The Role of Technology In Education

Technology is a crucial part in the present day learning environment. It has revolutionised the learning and teaching processes of students. It has transformed the learning and teaching process of students. Traditional education was primarily based on textbooks, blackboards and classroom instruction.Education was primarily text book, chalk board and classroom based in the past. In the modern world, computers, smart phones, tablets, projectors and internet are being utilized in schools. Technology has facilitated many more people to have an easier, faster, more interesting and more accessible education.

Making information easily available is one of the most important functions of technology in education. Students have the ability to go online and research information on nearly any subject. Students have access to learning resources other than their textbooks on the internet, through educational websites, electronic books, and videos. This will motivate students to do research and make students independent learners. Students can use other sources of information or be given additional information to expand their knowledge beyond that of their teachers alone.

Technology also allows for enhanced engagement in teaching and learning. Teachers can use any pictures, videos, animation, presentation or educational games to explain difficult topics. Using a video to show a scientific experiment, or an animation to explain how the human body works are examples of how this could be done. The techniques can help students to better grasp the meaning of the lesson and to remember what they have learned over a longer period.

One of the other essential functions of technology is online education. Students can take classes with computers or cell phones, without having to be in class. Teachers can upload notes, assignments, tests, and other learning materials to online learning platforms for distribution to their students. This is particularly beneficial where students live a considerable distance from schools and universities. It can also enable individuals to learn beyond the classroom when it is not feasible.

In addition, technology has enhanced the communication aspect of education. Teachers can send messages and emails to students and parents via platforms, apps, and educational systems. Students can ask questions, submit assignments and get feedback via electronic channels. Parents are also able to get access to their children's learning progressions and have better access to teachers.

Besides that, technology assists teachers in doing their jobs better. Computers can be used to prepare lessons, to make presentations, to organise students' records, to mark work and to make exams. The use of some educational applications can aid teachers to recognize students' strengths and weaknesses. It provides teachers with the opportunity to support pupils if they are being less successful in certain subjects.

There are some disadvantages in technology, though. Some students may not be able to access computers, their smartphones or good internet connections. Technology may also be distracting and decrease students' engagement with physical activities and in-person interactions. Students sometimes rely on information from the web rather than thinking critically or engaging in their own work rather than depending on the information from the web. So technology is to be used wisely and responsibly.

To sum up, technology has made education much better, by allowing access to information, making learning interactive, communication convenient and effective, and teaching more effective in general. It does have some drawbacks, but has many advantages when used correctly. Teachers, parents, and students should collaborate to ensure that technology is used to assist in learning and not as a distraction or barrier to learning. Technology, when used responsibly, can make a significant contribution to improved learning and equip pupils for the demands of the 21st century.
