There are a lot of challenges, temptations, distractions and pressures in the world we live in. Each day we are presented with options that can take us closer to God, or further away from Him. Ephesians 5:16 reminds us to make the best of our time because of the evil days. A profound warning: Be careful, be wise, and be purposeful in our lives.
In days of evil, we can easily become discouraged, or led astray by the circumstances. We are inundated with voices calling out and not all of them are good for our spiritual development. The Christian should learn to know the difference between right and wrong. You should not do everything that is fashionable just because it's trendy. Rather we should let God's Word be our guide for decision making.
Our strength in God does not exclude us from having to face difficulties. It is knowing that we will find strength when we need it. At times you may feel tired, disappointed, confused or discouraged. At these times, don't rely solely on your own strength. Pray to God, trust in Him and ask Him for grace to go on.
We must not let evil around us be a justification for us not to believe. Instead it should be a call to get closer to God. We need to be careful of who we surround ourselves with, what we talk about, what we listen to and the influences we let into our lives. We are surrounded by people who can affect our choices and our personality, and we are called to choose our relationships to help us become better and stay faithful to God.
It is also important to know how to make the best use of time. Time is a valued gift from God and once it's lost it's forever lost. Rather than live and die by things that do not matter, let's spend time learning, praying, serving others, building our skills, and doing things that will matter.
At times we will make errors. If so, never let failure keep you away from God. Rather, admit your error, ask for forgiveness, glean from it, and move forward. God cares for us to grow and get better.
Keep in mind that God's truth is constant. Others may let you down, there will be setbacks and things may not go your way but God will be faithful. So watch Him, and do not be influenced by the world to lose your faith.
It is a hard time, but it is also a good time to be of service. Be a positive example to others. Do not discourage those who are discouraged; be kind to other people; let your actions be a reflection of your faith.
Bear in mind the days are evil, but you do not have to go astray. Stay strong in God. Pray, be alert, be productive with your time, and be a man of faith. Whatever difficulties may arise, cling to God for He is greater than all the challenges you may face.
