MY PARTNER (part 1)

My family loved him and welcomed him with so much joy and happiness.

Though before the introduction, the guy stopped me from working and from learning my hand skill work, which I paid heavily for.

After our introduction, I got pregnant for him. He said we were going to do a court wedding and that he was going to pay my bride price. Though I blame myself for getting pregnant for him when he had not yet paid my bride price. He promised my parents that he was going to do all that before I gave birth.

Then I started living with him at his place. I’m also a student, so because of my pregnancy, he stopped me from going to school too. He said all he wanted was for me to come and stay in his shop with him, which I agreed to.

He has a younger sister who lives with him, and he also has a sales girl at his shop. When I started going to the shop with him, the sales girl would not greet me or regard me as his woman.

After some weeks, I was with my partner’s phone when I saw a message from the sales girl telling him, “Why did you leave me for another woman after I have aborted twice for you?”

I was speechless when I saw the message. I asked him about it, and he confirmed it was true. He begged me to forgive him. I told him he should choose between us, whether it was me or the sales girl. He then asked the sales girl to leave.

That was when another journey began for me.

When we newly started dating, he always talked about God and was always praying, but I never knew the church he attended. When I started living with him, every Sunday he wouldn’t go to church. If I asked him why, he would say nothing. I would then leave him and attend my parents’ church.

This happened for months before I confronted him. I told him if he didn’t take me to his church, I would go back to my parents’ house with my pregnancy. He begged me and promised to take me to his church, which he later did. He only took me there once and stopped going after that.

After months of living with him, my dad would call him to tell him he should come and pay my bride price. He would complain that he had no money and asked my dad to wait until after I gave birth, promising he would do the needful. My dad believed him, and I also believed him.

While I was living with him, he always asked me to bring my other child to come and stay with us. I told him he should leave her with my parents since my child didn’t even know I was her mother because my mom raised her. I said she would only come to see us during holidays.

He said I should promise him that my daughter would never be the cause of any problem between us in the future, and I promised him that such wouldn’t happen.

I know him as someone who loves sex so much. Even when I wasn’t in the mood, he always forced himself on me despite my pregnancy.

My staying in his house brought so many things. I started seeing charms. He had an altar which he worshipped. I started having so many bad dreams. I always had attacks in my sleep, and anytime I woke up, I would see long marks on my body. Whenever I told him about it, he would tell me that one of his neighbors in the compound was a witch and that was why he was using all those charms to protect himself. I believed him, thinking it was true.

I stayed with him in his shop for months, even with my pregnancy. He promised to pay me ₦30,000 every month so I would have money for my upkeep, but he never did.

Coming to his sister who lived with us, she had just finished nursing school last year. I never had issues with her or her staying with us.
