I knew that maybe I had just ended my internship and whatever undocumented, unreasonable relationship Adrian and I had.
I was prepared for the consequences.
There was something more important on my mind anyway. Mama still needed money for her treatment, and I also needed money for myself. I couldn't sit at home and wait for things to get worse.
So, before I was officially sent out of the company, I left on my own.
I took a job at a club as a waitress, or server. It wasn't the kind of job I had imagined for myself, but it was the only reasonable thing I could find at the time.
For two to three weeks, I worked there.
Then, one particular night, everything changed.
A customer came in and started causing trouble.
He was aggressive and seemed determined to make things difficult for me.
He ordered a particular type of alcohol, and I brought exactly what he had requested.
But when I served it, he looked at me angrily.
“This isn't what I asked for.”
I was confused.
“It is what you asked for, sir.”
He became even more aggressive.
I tried to explain, but he wasn't interested in listening. It became obvious that he was intentionally trying to provoke me.
Then, suddenly, he picked up a bottle and smashed it against my head.
Pain exploded through me.
Everything around me became blurry.
I could hear voices, but they sounded far away. My body became weak, and I felt myself losing consciousness.
I was about to hit the ground when something grabbed me from behind.
Someone caught me.
I slowly looked up.
It was Adrian.
Adrian.
The last person I expected to see.
Then everything went dark.
When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a completely different room.
My head hurt badly.
There was a bandage around it, and from the way I felt, I knew I had already been treated.
I looked around.
The room was enormous.
It was beautifully furnished, cool from the air conditioner, and far more luxurious than anything I was used to.
Then I noticed Adrian sitting across the room, having a drink.
I groaned from the pain.
He immediately stood up and came toward me.
"Are you okay?"
“What were you doing there?”
I stared at him.
“Why did you leave the company without prior notice?”
He asked several questions, but my head was too painful and confused to process everything.
I tried to stand.
“I want to go home.”
But my legs were weak.
Before I could fall, Adrian supported me.
He helped me walk out of the room and into the sitting iroom.

“No.”
He paused.
“What do you want?”
I looked at him.
“I want to go home. Where is my bag? I want to go home.”
For a moment, he simply looked at me.
Then he said, “Okay. Let me get my car keys.”
I frowned.
“Car keys for what? I'm going to take the bus.”
He laughed.
“I'll take you home.”
I didn't know what to say.
After everything that had happened between us, I couldn't understand why Adrian was helping me.
And for the first time, I began to wonder if there was more to him than everyone had told me.
