By The Midnight Quill
Beneath the sun that crowns your soil,
A giant stands, worn down by toil.
A land of dreams, of strength and grace,
Yet sorrow lingers in your face.
Your roads stretch wide, then break apart,
Like promises that lose their heart.
The wheels move slowly through the dust,
While hope grows weary, strained by trust.
When darkness falls, the homes grow still,
Yet generators roar against the will.
The lights go out, the night grows long,
And tired hearts keep singing songs.
The graduates hold their papers high,
With dreams that reach beyond the sky.
But doors stay shut, the days pass by,
And unanswered questions fill the sky.
In quiet homes, the mothers pray,
For loved ones who have gone away.
Each distant sound can stir the night,
Each whispered fear dims morningโs light.
The cost of living climbs each day,
While humble earnings fade away.
The market stalls, the empty purse,
Turn daily hope into a curse.
And those who lead, who speak of change,
Must hear the voices growing strange.
For leadership is more than words,
It is the shelter people deserve.
O Nigeria, land of many tongues,
Of ancient stories, songs unsung,
How long must dreams be left to wait?
How long must hope stand at the gate?
Yet still your people rise again,
Through restless nights and pouring rain.
The hands that build, the minds that strive,
Keep wounded dreams and futures alive.
A child still draws a brighter land,
A farmer sows with patient hand.
A teacher lights a little flame,
And youth still dare to speak your name.
So let the roads be built with care,
Let power reach each home and prayer.
Let work be found by willing hands,
And safety walk across the lands.
Let leaders listen, not pretend,
Let broken promises finally mend.
Let justice stand for rich and poor,
And open wide each locked-up door.
O giant, sleeping in the shadows,
May your strength awaken trueโ
Not through the grandeur of your promises,
But through what your people see you do.
Until that morning graces our horizon,
Leave this question with the night:
Will you become the land we dream ofโ
Or remain a promise out of sight?
