You can agree with me that one of the most common lies people tell every day is, “I’m fine.”
You are fighting for your life, trying to keep up with the pressures of life, trying to meet expectations and trying to figure things out, but yet you try so hard to conceal it from the world.
People may tag you as weak if all you do is complain, but that is not always true. Sometimes, admitting that you are struggling is simply being honest. Sometimes, you just need someone to listen.
We have become so used to saying “I’m fine” that we hardly stop to think about what could actually be going on behind those words.
Every day, people walk on the street. They go to work, school, church, meet friends, laugh and go about their normal lives.
And sometimes, I really wonder, what is everyone thinking?
What is that person carrying?
What are they silently fighting?
What happened to them yesterday?
What are they afraid to tell anyone?
We see people's faces, but we rarely see their battles.
Sometimes, I wish I could sit down and have a conversation with everyone I meet. I wish I could listen to their stories, encourage them, and leave them with something to hold on to as they keep moving.
Maybe someone just needs to hear that they are not alone.
Maybe someone just needs to be reminded that they can keep going.
Maybe someone simply needs a listening ear.
Maybe someone needs a safe place to say, “I’m not okay,” without feeling ashamed.
Yes, that would be very hectic, but I believe even a small conversation can make a difference.
I used to be like that–or should I say, I still am?
I still tell people I’m fine when, in the real sense, I’m not. I smile, carry on with my day and act like everything is okay.
But the case is different when I go to Him.
I get to pour out my heart. I can say everything, the things I understand and the things I don't. I don't have to pretend that I'm okay when I'm not.
And the beautiful thing is, I don't have to worry about being judged for being weak. I can cry, question, complain, and still know that I am being heard.
I can simply come as I am.
And maybe that is why I wish everyone could experience what I have found.
There is One who always listens, even to the sighs we make when we don't have the words to explain what we are feeling. One who hears the things we cannot say out loud.
One who is always willing to give us direction, strengthen us and help us through the things we cannot handle on our own.
His name is Jesus.
The Bible says:
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 NIV
He cares,
Even about the things you think are too small to mention.
Even about the things you feel you should have been able to handle by yourself.
So, are you fine?
Maybe you don't have to pretend before Him.
You can tell Him what hurts. You can tell Him what scares you. You can tell Him what you don't understand.
You don't have to carry it all alone.
You don't have to be fine before Jesus.
You only have to be honest.
