YAGAZIE

YAGAZIE

Yagazie–may it be well!

May the coral beads continue to adorn the hands that take fresh palm wine to the lips of the hidden groom.

May the palm fronds be there to sweep away wistfulness when there's no broom.

May Mama Nnukwu be alive to murmur sweet legends to her progeny under the moonlight.

And may the black goat be found before the break of the night.

Yagazielu gi–may it be well with you!

May your sojourn to the top of the palm tree always be a success.

May the whistles of your toil on the farmland fill your barns to excess.

May the wind not blow off the lamp when you attempt to tear the night.

And may the red oil fill your bowl as you roast the yam to bite.

Yagazielum–may it be well with me!

May aki oyibo not be wanting when I'm done roasting the corn.

May the flutes herald the greatness for which I was born.

May Olisabinigwe be the only mmuo that possesses me.

And may yesterday not come back and meet me where I used to be.

Indeed may it be well

With our abodes,

With our toils

And with our lives.

Iseeeee!
