When Love Knocks
When it finally graces my doorstep with bubbling butterflies,
Pray my room's blaring music don't overshadow the ping of the doorbell.
When it leaves me a mail,
Pray I remember to check the mailbox.
When it ventures chasing after my heels,
Pray I don't outdo Usain Bolts in a swift response.
When it whispers a soft serenade,
Pray its symphony is a cacophony I can tolerate.
When it lingers at the window, pray I don't blindly shut the panes,
When it lends its balm to heal, pray all I remember is not the pain of yesteryears.
When it offers to stay–to make thick the thin
And make high the lows,
To be a fountain that waters this parched wilderness, pray I be found thirsty.
When love admits it took long–I mean, when love admits it slowly traversed a billion miles and meets me when I'm gone, pray I find the will to detour.
When it lightens the twilight in his eyes, and lengthen the pace of my breath, pray I don't recoil into the shadows that never rejected me.
When nonetheless it sweetly persists,
Pray I resist the urge to bitterly insist.
And when it pauses to catch a breath,
Pray then that I pause to catch mine.
