The Ache Behind His Pride
There are men who yearn
but never say, I miss you.
They carry your name quietly,
somewhere between their thoughts
and the things they refuse to admit.
They open your chat,
stare at the last message,
type something,
delete it,
and put their phone away
as though they were never tempted.
Because somewhere along the way,
men were taught that missing someone
makes them weak.
So they learn to swallow it.
They learn to say,
βIβm good.β
βIβm fine.β
βIt doesnβt matter.β
Even when it does.
There are men who miss your voice
but will never call.
Men who pass by familiar places
and remember the way you laughed
when you were trying not to laugh.
Men who hear a song
you once loved
and suddenly find themselves
somewhere in the past.
They remember little things.
The way you said their name.
The food you always ordered.
The stories you told too many times.
The way you reached for their hand
without thinking.
They remember more than they let on.
Some men yearn for your presence
more than anything else.
Not just your body.
Not just your beauty.
Not just the warmth of having someone beside them.
They miss the peace.
The woman who made silence comfortable.
The woman they could sit beside
without pretending to have everything figured out.
They miss having someone
who noticed when something was wrong
even when they said nothing.
Because sometimes,
a man doesn't want advice.
Sometimes he just wants someone
to look at him and say,
βYou don't have to be strong with me.β
But pride can be a terrible thing.
It makes him wait for you to reach out first.
It makes him pretend he has moved on
when he hasn't.
It makes him watch your stories
without replying.
It makes him ask mutual friends
how you are
instead of asking you himself.
And sometimes,
it makes him lose the person
he secretly hoped would stay.
There are men who love deeply
but don't know how to show it.
Men whose affection comes out awkwardly.
Men who don't know how to write long paragraphs
but will remember the smallest detail about you.
Men who may not say,
βI need you,β
but will find every excuse
to be around you.
And there are men who have lost someone
and only understood their value afterward.
Not because the love wasn't there,
but because they were too afraid
to handle it properly.
They thought there would always be more time.
Another call.
Another conversation.
Another chance to say,
βI was wrong.β
Until one day,
there wasn't.
And that's when yearning becomes painful.
Because missing someone
is easy when you believe
they might return.
It is different
when you know they won't.
So perhaps we should remember
that men feel more than they confess.
They get lonely.
They get hurt.
They replay conversations
they wish they had handled differently.
They lie awake sometimes,
wondering if someone still thinks about them.
And beneath the pride,
beneath the silence,
beneath the careless smile
and the βI'm alright,β
there may be a heart
quietly asking,
Do you still remember me?
Do you ever miss me too?
Because even men who seem
like they need nobody
sometimes yearn to be held.
To be understood.
To be chosen.
To be loved without having
to hide how badly they need it.
