Love is not always
the butterflies in your stomach,
the smile that appears
when their name lights up your phone,
or the warmth that fills your chest
when you hear their voice.
Sometimes,
love is quieter.
It is choosing them
on the days when everything feels heavy,
when conversations are difficult,
when understanding each other
takes more patience than usual.
Because love is not always beautiful.
There will be days
when you misunderstand each other,
days when one person is tired,
days when words come out wrong
and silence feels easier than talking.
And perhaps that is where
love begins to mean something deeper.
Because anyone can stay
when everything is perfect.
But love asks,
Can you be patient with me
when I am not at my best?
Can you listen
when I don't know how to explain
what hurts?
Can you remain gentle
when loving me requires
a little more from you?
Love is sacrifice.
It is sometimes saying,
"I could take this for myself,
but I know you need it more."
It is giving
without keeping a mental record
of everything you've done.
It is caring about their happiness
even when there is nothing
you can personally gain from it.
It is wanting the best for them,
even when their best
requires you to be selfless.
Love should not be
one person constantly giving
while the other only takes.
It should have hands
that reach in both directions.
A heart that gives
and another heart
that knows how to give too.
Because love is not simply
what can you do for me?
Sometimes it is,
What can I do for you?
How can I make this easier?
How can I remind you
that you don't have to carry everything alone?
And perhaps the most underrated
part of love is patience.
Because people talk about
chemistry.
They talk about attraction,
late-night conversations,
the excitement of finding someone
who makes their heart race.
But nobody talks enough
about the patience required
to love a human being.
A real human being.
Someone with fears,
bad days,
insecurities,
mistakes,
changing moods,
and wounds you did not create.
Someone who will not always
say the right thing.
Someone who will sometimes
need to be understood
before they can understand you.
Love is knowing
that not every difficult season
means the end of the story.
Sometimes,
it simply means
you have entered a chapter
that requires patience.
So choose.
Choose them
when the excitement settles
and love becomes a decision.
Choose communication
over silent resentment.
Choose forgiveness
when forgiveness is deserved.
Choose patience
when patience is needed.
Choose to give,
not only to receive.
Choose to care
not only when it is convenient.
Because perhaps
the deepest kind of love
is not found in how loudly
someone says,
"I love you."
Maybe it is found
in how gently they live it.
In the sacrifices
no one sees.
In the patience
no one applauds.
In the little acts of care
that never make it
into a love story.
And maybe that is what love really is—
not just the feeling
that makes your heart race,
but the patience
when the feeling gets quiet,
the sacrifice
when giving becomes difficult,
the tenderness
when someone is hurting,
and the choice
to keep showing up
when walking away
would be easier.
Because love,
when it goes beyond the feeling,
doesn't simply ask,
"Do you still feel the same?"
It asks,
"Will you still choose me
when loving me isn't easy?"
And perhaps the most beautiful answer
is not found in the words,
"I love you,"
but in the quiet certainty of,
"Yes.
Even on the hard days,
I still choose you."
