There will be one day when Jesus Christ returns. It will not be a story, a dream or a prediction that can be ignored. The Bible says that the same Jesus that ascended into heaven will return. His second coming will be glorious, and his arm will be strong, and it will be unexpected. The question is not this time, but will you be ready when Jesus comes again?
Jesus, Himself, had given His disciples a warning to be prepared, since no one knows the day or hour of His coming. Be ye ready also; for ye know not when the Son of man cometh: Matthew 24:44. This is a serious reminder to us that we cannot wait for our relationship to God.
There are a lot of people who are busy living their lives. We go for education, jobs, businesses, relationships, money, houses and possessions. All of these have a role to play but none of them can prepare us for eternity. Jesus' arrival means that what we do in our world will not decide our fate in the hereafter. The question will be asked and the answer will be given: "Have we received Him and lived for Him?
To be ready does not mean to know the time of Christ's return. It is a lifestyle that assumes He can come at any moment and expects we must live life as though He is around at all times. It is to have our hearts in the right place with God, to avoid sin, and to forgive and forget those who sin against us; to live in love; and to be faithful when no one is looking.
The rest of the world can go about its business as it always does. People will get married, party, work, travel, make plans and follow their dreams. Everything will all of a sudden go differently. The return of Jesus will remind the humankind that God has given and promised him. Those who are in Christ will experience a time of joy and victory in Christ's coming. For those who have rejected Him, however, it will be a time of great regret.
Maybe you've been thinking, "I will put my life on the line for Jesus at a later date. Maybe you think that there is still time enough. But the day is not yet gone. There is a chance, now, to repent and surrender to Christ.
Jesus is not telling us to live in fear, but in readiness! In his return it is we who should ask ourselves the hard questions: Am I really following Jesus? Have I given my life to Him? Would I be ready to meet with Christ today?
The trumpet could blow when we are least expecting it. The heavens will announce the coming of the King of kings. All things that distract from eternity will seem unimportant.
So, are you prepared to be ready?
Never put things off till the last minute. Don't let money, fame, pleasure, disappointment or worldly distractions keep you from God. Today is a day to return to Jesus, to strengthen our faith and live in accordance with His Word.
Jesus is coming again. Preparing now is the time.
May we be watching, faithful, and ready when He comes.
