Alpha Secret bride

Chapter 1: The Night The King Died

The drums were still beating when the screaming started.

It was the night of the God Moon Festival. The great hall of the Moon Palace was full of light, music, and laughter. All the Alphas from the packs had come to honor Alpha King Darius, King of all Alphas.

Ten-year-old Kael sat near his father's great throne, swinging his legs and eating sweet cake. He was happy. His father looked tall and strong in his golden robe, smiling at his people.

His elder sister Elena, who was fourteen, sat beside him. "Behave, little prince," she whispered with a smile.

Then the big doors slammed shut with a loud bang.

The music stopped.

Cold wind blew into the hall, and the torches flickered. The smell of smoke filled the air.

Kael's father stood up. "What is happening?" he shouted.

Then they came. Soldiers with black armor rushed in, swords in their hands. Behind them walked a tall man with a cruel face and a bloody sword. It was Uncle Ragnor, the king's own younger brother.

The people screamed and ran, but the doors were locked.

"Ragnor!" King Darius shouted, his voice like thunder. "What treason is this?"

Ragnor smiled coldly and stepped into the center of the hall. His eyes were full of hate and greed.

"Brother, you are weak," he said loudly so all could hear. "You show mercy to weak packs. The Moon Goddess wants a stronger king. A king who rules with fear."

"You are my blood!" Darius shouted. "Do not do this!"

But Ragnor did not listen. He raised his sword and rushed forward.

The two brothers fought in the center of the hall. Steel rang against steel. Darius was strong, but Ragnor had poisoned his wine earlier, and his strength was leaving him.

Kael wanted to run to his father. He stood up crying, "Father!"

But Elena quickly pulled him down behind the great throne and covered his mouth with her hand. Her own hands were shaking.

"Quiet, Kael," she whispered, tears falling down her face. "If he sees you, he will kill you too. Please, be quiet for mother."

From behind the throne, Kael watched with wide, terrified eyes.

Ragnor laughed and struck hard. His bloody sword cut deep into Darius. The great Alpha King, King of all Alphas, fell to his knees, then fell face down on the cold stone floor. Blood spread around him like a red river.

The hall became silent.

Kael bit Elena's hand to stop himself from screaming. His whole body shook.

Ragnor lifted his bloody sword high into the air. Blood dripped from it.

"From tonight, I am the Alpha King!" he shouted. "Darius is dead! Anyone who stands against me will die like him!"

His black soldiers cheered. "Long live King Ragnor!"

The loyal guards of Darius tried to fight, but they were too few. One by one they were cut down. The smell of blood was everywhere. Women cried. Children hid under tables.

Elena knew they had to run or die. She pulled Kael toward the small secret tunnel behind the throne, a tunnel only the royal family knew.

" crawl, Kael, crawl fast!" she whispered.

They crawled on their hands and knees in the dark, narrow tunnel. Behind them they could hear fire crackling as Ragnor's men set the palace curtains on fire. The smoke chased them.

At last they came out into the cold night forest behind the palace. The air was icy. They had no shoes. Sharp stones cut their feet.

Kael fell to the ground, crying loudly. "Father! Father! I want father!"

Elena hugged him tight, though she was crying too. "We must live, Kael. Father would want us to live. We must live to fight back one day."

Kael looked back at the burning palace. His tears stopped, and a cold anger filled his young chest.

That night under the full, watching moon, ten-year-old Kael knelt on the wet ground. He raised his small fist to the sky and made a vow with all his heart.

"Moon Goddess, hear me! My uncle killed my father and stole his throne. I swear on my father's blood, I will grow strong. I will train every day. I will come back. I will take back what is mine. I will make Ragnor pay with his own blood!"

The wind blew hard through the trees, as if the Moon Goddess herself had heard his promise.

Then, from the darkness, a small soft voice said, "Are you hungry?"

Kael looked up, startled.

A little girl about eight years old stood there. Her clothes were dirty and torn, her face was covered in ash, but her eyes were kind and clear. She held out half a piece of dry bread with both hands. It was Mia, the daughter of a palace kitchen servant who had run into the forest during the attack.

Kael stared at her. He took the bread slowly.

Elena whispered, "Thank you, little one."

Kael never forgot those eyes in that dark night. Something warm touched his broken heart.

"You will be my Luna one day," little Kael whispered to her seriously, like a true prince making a royal promise. "I promise. When I am king, I will find you and protect you."

Mia blinked, not understanding, but she smiled shyly.

But before he could say more, loud shouts and the barking of hunting dogs echoed through the trees.

"Search the forest! Find the prince and princess! Kill them!"

Elena's face turned white. She grabbed Kael's hand. "Run!"

They ran into the deep dark trees, leaving the little girl behind. Kael looked back once, and Mia waved at him.

That was the night the king died in blood and fire. And that was the night a ten-year-old prince vowed revenge under the moon.

Chapter 2: The Boy In The Forest

Three days had passed since the night the king died.

Deep in the Dark Pine Forest, where the trees were so tall they blocked the sun, there was a small cold cave behind thick bushes. Inside that cave hid two children with no home.

Kael, ten years old, sat at the mouth of the cave. His fine prince clothes were now torn and dirty. His feet were bare and cut. He held a sharp wooden stick in his small hands, his eyes watching every movement in the trees.

He was no longer just a prince. He was a hunted boy.

Behind him, his elder sister Elena, fourteen, lay on the cold ground. Her face was pale. Her forehead was hot with fever. Her feet were swollen and bleeding from three days of running without shoes.

"Elena?" Kael whispered. "Are you awake?"

Elena did not answer. She only coughed weakly in her sleep.

Kael's heart was full of fear. First he lost his father. Now he might lose his sister too. He clenched his stick tighter.

"We cannot stay here," Elena had said yesterday before the fever took her. "Ragnor's men are searching every village. They will not stop."

But Kael did not know where to go. The forest was big and dark. Wolves howled at night. He was hungry, cold, and tired, but he would not sleep. He had to guard his sister.

Suddenly, dry leaves rustled outside. Crack. Crack.

Kael jumped to his feet. His heart pounded. He raised his sharp stick high.

"Who is there?" he shouted with a shaking voice, trying to sound brave. "Show yourself!"

The bushes moved. A small figure stepped out slowly.

Kael almost dropped his stick.

It was the girl from that terrible night. The girl with kind eyes who gave him bread. Mia.

She was about eight years old, her hair messy, her dress torn by thorns. But she carried a small bag made of old cloth clutched tightly to her chest.

"Do not hit me," she said softly. "It is me."

Kael lowered his stick. "Mia? How did you find us?"

"I followed the river," she said. She came closer and sat down near the cave. She opened her bag. Inside were two pieces of dry bread and two small red apples she had picked.

"I brought you food," she said, holding them out. "You must eat."

Elena woke at the sound and tried to smile weakly. "Thank you, little one. What is your name again?"

"Mia," the girl said. "My mother was a servant in the palace kitchen. She... she died in the fire that night. I have no one now. I live under the big tree near the stream."

Kael sat down beside her and took the bread. His hands were shaking from hunger. He broke the bread into three pieces and gave the biggest piece to Elena.

"You are like us now," he said quietly, looking at her dirty face. "Alone."

Mia nodded. She was not crying. Her eyes were clear and brave. "My mother told me the Moon Goddess protects good people. She will protect you because you are good."

Kael shook his head angrily, tears filling his eyes. "No! The Moon Goddess did not protect my father! Ragnor killed him!"

Mia looked at him for a long time. Then she gently touched his hand with her small, cold fingers.

"Then we will protect each other," she said simply.

That night, Elena became very sick. The cold from the cave had entered her body. She was shaking hard, her teeth chattering, sweat on her face. She coughed and coughed.

"Elena! Wake up! Please wake up!" Kael panicked. He shook her shoulders. "Do not leave me too!"

Mia quickly stood up. "Wait here. I will come back."

She ran out into the dark forest alone, though Kael shouted for her to stop. After a long time, she came back, breathing hard, her hands full of wet green leaves and bitter herbs.

"My mother taught me," she explained. She crushed the leaves with stones and placed them cool on Elena's hot forehead. "She needs warmth and rest."

Kael took off his own thin coat, the only warm thing he had left, and covered his sister with it, even though the night wind cut through his own shirt like ice.

For two whole nights, Mia stayed with them. She went to get water from the stream in an old leaf cup. She fed Elena small bites of apple. She changed the cool leaves.

Kael sat at the cave entrance all night with his stick, fighting sleep, listening to the wolves howling far away. He was afraid, but he would not show it. He was the prince. He had to be strong.

On the third morning, pale sunlight entered the cave.

Elena slowly opened her eyes. Her fever was gone. She looked at Mia and smiled with tears.

"You saved my life, little sister," she whispered. "Thank you."

Kael looked at Mia in the morning light. She was small and thin, but she had not run away from danger. She had run toward it to help them.

In that moment, something changed in Kael's ten-year-old heart. He made another promise to himself, silent and deep.

This girl is weak, but she is braver than many warriors. When I become king and take back my throne, I will protect her forever. I will make her my Luna, so no one can ever hurt her again.

But they did not know that far away in the Moon Palace, in a dark tower full of candles, Ragnor was speaking to his old witch.

The witch stared into a black bowl of water. "My king, the boy lives. The prince Kael lives in the forest with his sister."

Ragnor's face turned red with anger. He slammed his fist on the table.

"Find the boy!" he ordered. "Find Kael before he grows his wolf and becomes strong. Send the hunters and dogs. Kill him! Kill them all!"

And that same morning in the forest, as the three children shared the last piece of bread and smiled for the first time in days, the wind carried a faraway sound through the trees.

It was the howl of Ragnor's hunting dogs, coming closer and closer.

Chapter 3: Ten Years Later

Ten years passed like the river in winter, cold, fast, and unforgiving.

The boy who once cried in a dark cave was gone.

On a high cliff in the northern mountains, where snow never melted, a young man of twenty stood training at sunrise. His body was tall and strong, his muscles hard from years of pain. His dark hair blew in the wind, and his eyes burned with a fire that never went out.

It was Kael, the lost prince.

Every morning before the sun rose, he lifted heavy stones until his arms shook. Every afternoon he fought with real swords against three warriors at once until his hands bled. Every night he ran through the forest in his wolf form.

His wolf had awakened on his eighteenth birthday under the full moon. It was huge and black as midnight, with silver eyes. When it howled, even the old warriors bowed their heads.

"Again!" shouted old Beta Marcus, his father's most loyal friend, his beard now white. "A king does not get tired!"

Kael wiped blood from his lip and raised his sword again. In his heart there was only one face: Ragnor, laughing with his father's blood on his sword.

"For my father," Kael whispered with each strike. "For my father."

Hidden in the mountain valley, over two hundred loyal wolves trained with him in secret. They were men and women who had escaped Ragnor's cruelty. They waited for the day their true prince would return.

His sister Elena, now twenty-four, was no longer a scared girl. She was a skilled fighter with long braided hair and a scar on her arm from a hunter's arrow. She watched her brother train and worried.

"Brother, you train like you want to die," she said one evening, handing him water. "Do not let revenge eat your soul."

Kael looked toward the south, where the lights of the Moon Palace glowed far away. "Revenge is all I have, Elena. I promised father under the moon."

Far away in that same Moon Palace, Ragnor sat on the stolen throne. Ten years of cruel rule had made him fat, his face red from too much wine. The great hall that was once full of music was now full of fear.

The packs suffered. He took their food, their money, their sons for his army. Anyone who spoke against him disappeared in the night.

But Ragnor was afraid too. Every night he dreamed of a boy with his brother's eyes coming to kill him.

He called his old witch to the throne room. "Tell me again! Is the boy dead?"

The witch shook her head, her voice like dry leaves. "My king, my hunters searched the forest for years. They found nothing. But my magic tells me... the lost prince lives. And when the God Moon comes again, he will return to challenge you before all the packs."

Ragnor crushed his golden cup. "Then I will kill every young warrior who comes to the palace! I will kill them all!"

In a small poor village at the edge of the Dark Pine Forest lived a beautiful young woman of eighteen. It was Mia.

She had grown from the brave little girl into a kind young woman with long brown hair and clear eyes. She worked from morning to night as a maid, washing clothes in the cold river, cleaning houses, carrying heavy water.

She was loved by all, but she had nothing. No family. No mate. No wolf yet, for hers was weak and had never fully awakened.

At night, in her tiny hut, Mia often dreamed the same dream. A dark cave. A sad boy with a stick guarding his sick sister. A promise whispered: "You will be my Luna one day."

She always woke up with tears. "It was just a childhood dream," she told herself. "That boy is gone."

She did not know his name was Kael. She did not know he was alive and training to be king.

One cold evening, the village elder beat his drum in the square. All the people gathered, afraid.

"By order of Alpha King Ragnor!" the elder read loudly. "All healthy young women from every village must go to the Moon Palace to serve as maids for the God Moon Festival! No one can refuse!"

The women cried. Going to the palace meant hard work and cruel guards. But no one dared to say no.

Mia's hands trembled as she packed her small bag. She touched the crescent-shaped birthmark on her neck that she always hid under her hair. "Mother, protect me," she whispered.

That same night, Kael stood on the highest cliff, looking at the Moon Palace lights in the distance. Snow fell on his shoulders.

Elena stood beside him, her cloak blowing. "It is time, brother."

Kael clenched his fist until his nails cut his palm. "Tomorrow I will cut my hair and change my name. I will enter the palace as a common warrior looking for work. Ragnor will not recognize the boy he tried to kill ten years ago."

"And then?" Elena asked.

"Then I will wait," Kael said, his wolf growling inside him. "I will wait for the God Moon Tournament. By law, any warrior can challenge the king on that night before all the packs. I will show my father's ring. I will challenge him to death."

What Kael did not know, as he stared at the palace, was that on the muddy road below, a line of young women was already walking toward that same palace.

And among them, with her head down against the wind, walked Mia.

The wheel of fate, silent for ten years, had started to turn again.

Chapter 4: The Call Of The Moon Goddess

The full moon hung high over the northern mountains, round and silver like the eye of heaven.

All was quiet in the hidden valley. The warriors were asleep. The fires were low. Only Kael could not sleep.

He walked alone to the sacred stone on the cliff, the place where his father used to pray. He knelt on the cold rock, his head bowed, his fists tight on his knees.

Tonight was the night of the Moon Prayer, the holy night when every wolf who was eighteen or older could speak to the Moon Goddess if their heart was true.

Kael closed his eyes. His voice was low and rough from years of pain.

"Goddess," he whispered, "hear your son. For ten years I have trained. For ten years I have lived only for one thing. Give me strength. Help me kill my uncle Ragnor and free our people from his cruelty. Help me take back my father's throne."

Tears fell from his eyes onto the stone. He waited.

At first there was nothing. Then the wind stopped completely. The trees stopped moving. Even the insects became silent.

A soft, bright silver light fell from the moon and covered Kael's whole body. It was warm, like a mother's arms around a cold child.

Kael trembled. He felt peace for the first time in ten years.

Then a gentle female voice spoke clearly inside his mind. It was not loud, but it filled his whole soul.

"Kael, son of Darius, blood of the true Alpha King. I have heard your pain, and I have seen your tears."

Kael bowed lower. "Great Goddess, tell me what to do."

The voice continued, kind but firm. "Your pain is great, but revenge alone will make you weak and blind. A king who rules by hate will become like the man you hate. To be a true Alpha King, you need more than a sword. You need a Luna by your side."

Kael lifted his head, confused. "A Luna? Goddess, I have no time for love. I must fight."

"You must love to fight well," the Goddess answered. "Your mate is already chosen. She is waiting for you. She is the girl with kind eyes who gave you bread in the forest when you were a boy. She carries my crescent mark on her skin."

Kael's heart stopped. His mind flew back ten years, to the dark cave, to the cold night, to the little girl holding out dry bread.

"Mia," he whispered. "Is she alive?"

"She lives," the Goddess said. "Find her before the God Moon. Take her as your wife in secret, before the eyes of the packs. She will give you the power to unite the Alphas, and she will keep your heart from turning to stone."

"But Goddess," Kael said quickly, "I do not know where she is. The world is large."

"Follow the pull of your heart and your wolf. When you see her, your wolf will know her scent. You will feel fire in your blood. Do not let her go."

The silver light slowly faded. The wind began to blow again. The forest sounds returned.

Kael stood up on shaking legs. His black wolf stirred inside him, howling softly with hope.

For ten years he had thought only of blood and revenge. Now the Moon Goddess was telling him to find love.

Just then, footsteps came behind him on the stone. It was his sister Elena, now twenty-four, strong and beautiful, her sword at her side.

She saw his wet eyes. "Brother, what did she say to you?"

Kael looked toward the distant lights of the Moon Palace glowing in the valley below. His voice was steady now.

"She said I must find my mate before I fight. She said Mia is alive, and she bears the moon mark. I must marry her in secret."

Elena smiled, and tears shone in her own eyes. "Then the promise you made as a ten-year-old boy was not just a childish dream. It was fate written by the Goddess herself."

Kael nodded. "Tomorrow I will enter the palace as a common warrior. I will find her."

At the same time, far away on the dusty road leading to the Moon Palace, a group of tired young women was walking under guard. Among them was Mia, now eighteen, her dress torn, her feet sore.

She suddenly stopped and looked up at the same full moon. A strange warmth spread through her chest, and for a moment she thought she heard a deep wolf howling inside her own heart.

She touched the side of her neck where a faint crescent-shaped birthmark glowed softly silver under the moonlight. She had hidden it her whole life because her mother told her to never show it.

"Why is my heart beating so fast?" she whispered to herself, frightened.

She did not know that at that very moment, the Moon Goddess had tied her fate forever to the lost prince.

And high in the dark witch tower of the Moon Palace, Ragnor's old witch woke from her sleep with a scream.

She ran to Ragnor, her eyes wide with fear. "My King! The Moon Goddess has spoken! She has chosen a Luna for the lost prince! Find the girl with the moon mark on her neck before he finds her, or your throne will fall!"

Ragnor crushed his wine cup in his hand. "Then find her and kill her!"

The wind carried his angry shout across the palace walls, while the moon shone on, silent and watching.

Chapter 5: Entering The Palace

The sun rose red over the Moon Palace on the morning Kael returned.

Ten years ago he had crawled out of this palace through a secret tunnel, a crying boy with bare feet. Today he walked toward its great gates as a man, his head high, his face hidden.

He had cut his long dark hair short with a knife. He wore old, dirty warrior clothes borrowed from a dead hunter. A rough cloth covered half his face. On his finger he wore his father's black ring, but he had wrapped it tightly with leather so no one could see it.

His heart beat like a war drum. Every step felt heavy.

"Remember," Elena had whispered before he left the mountains, hugging him tight. "You are not Prince Kael now. You are just Kael, a poor warrior from the north looking for work. Do not show your wolf. Do not show your anger. Wait for the right time."

Kael nodded. His black wolf growled inside him, angry at being caged.

The palace gates were huge and black, guarded by Ragnor's cruel soldiers in dark armor. A long line of men waited, all hoping to become palace guards for the God Moon Festival.

Kael joined the line, keeping his eyes down.

Next to the men's line was another line. A line of young women, tired and afraid, holding small bags. They had come from the villages to serve as maids.

Kael did not look at first. Then the wind blew.

A sweet scent touched his nose. Like wild flowers after rain. Like warm bread. Like something from a dream.

His wolf suddenly woke up inside him and howled loudly in his mind: _Mate! Mate is near!

Kael's whole body froze. His hands shook. He turned his head slowly.

And he saw her.

Among the tired girls stood a young woman of eighteen. Her brown hair was tied back, her dress was old and patched, but her face was beautiful and kind. Her eyes were clear and brave, even though she was scared.

It was Mia.

Kael's breath stopped. Ten years had passed, but he knew those eyes. They were the eyes that gave him bread in the dark cave. The eyes from his dreams every night.

Mia,_ his heart screamed. You are alive.

Mia felt something too. She lifted her head and looked straight at the strange warrior staring at her. Her chest felt warm and tight. Her heart beat fast for no reason. The faint crescent birthmark on her neck, hidden under her hair, began to tingle.

Who is he? she thought. Why does my heart hurt when I look at him?

But before either could move, a cruel guard shouted, "Next! You! Come forward!"

It was Kael's turn. He forced himself to look away from Mia and walked to the testing stone.

A big captain with a scar on his face looked him up and down. "Name?"

"Kael," he said in a rough voice. "From the north mountains. I can fight."

The captain laughed. "All northerners say they can fight. Show me."

Two palace soldiers attacked Kael at once with wooden swords. The crowd watched.

Kael dodged easily. He moved like wind, like a shadow. He did not use his full strength, only enough to win. With two quick moves, both soldiers were on the ground, groaning.

The captain's eyes widened. "Good. Very good. You will be a palace guard."

He threw Kael a bronze guard badge. Kael caught it and bowed his head to hide his burning eyes.

As he walked through the gates into the courtyard, he passed close to the women's line.

Mia was right there. So close he could hear her breathing.

Their shoulders almost touched. His wolf howled again: _Take her! Protect her!_

Mia looked up at him. Their eyes met for one long second.

Kael wanted to stop. He wanted to say her name. He wanted to tell her, "I am the boy from the cave. I kept my promise."

But guards were everywhere. Ragnor's witch was watching from the tower window. It was too dangerous.

He forced his feet to keep walking.

Mia watched his back disappear into the palace. She touched her fast-beating heart, confused.

"Why do I feel like I know him?" she whispered to herself.

She did not know that the warrior who just walked past her was the lost prince. She did not know that the Moon Goddess had chosen her to be his secret bride.

And high above in the dark witch tower, the old witch stared down at the courtyard. She saw the new guard stop near the girls. She saw him look at one girl longer than the others.

Her eyes narrowed. "The new warrior... his scent is strange. Like royalty."

She turned to her black crow. "Fly, my pet. Watch the new guard named Kael. And watch the village girl with the hidden mark. The game has begun."

The crow cawed and flew into the sky, while below, fate brought the two mates closer under the same cruel roof for the first time in ten years.

Chapter 6: The Maid With The Moon Mark

Mia's first night in the Moon Palace was cold and cruel.

The maids slept in a dark stone room under the kitchen, twenty girls on thin straw mats on the floor. The air smelled of smoke and old sweat. Their feet were sore and bleeding from the long walk.

An old fat head-maid with a stick walked between them, shouting.

"You village girls are nothing! You will work from sunrise to midnight! If you break a plate, you will be whipped! If you look at a warrior too long, you will be whipped!"

Mia kept her head down. She held her small bag tightly. Inside was her mother's old shawl, her only treasure.

That night she could not sleep. She kept thinking of the strange new guard at the gate. The one named Kael. When their eyes met, her heart had beaten like a drum, and the birthmark on her neck had burned warm.

Who is he? she wondered. Why do I feel safe and afraid at the same time?

She touched the crescent mark on the side of her neck and quickly covered it with her hair, as her mother had always told her. "Never show it, Mia. Bad people will hurt you for it."

At the same time, in the guards' barracks on the other side of the palace, Kael also could not sleep.

He lay on a hard wooden bed among fifty snoring soldiers. His mind was full of Mia's face.

She is alive. She is here. The Goddess was right.

His wolf paced inside him restlessly. _Go to her! Claim her! Protect her!_

But Kael clenched his fists. Not yet. If Ragnor finds her first, he will kill her. I must be patient.

The next morning, Mia's work began.

She was sent to clean the great training yard where the warriors practiced. She carried a heavy bucket of water, her arms shaking.

The sun was hot. Warriors shouted and swords clashed. Mia kept her eyes on the ground and scrubbed the stones.

Then she heard a familiar rough voice. "Water! Bring water!"

She looked up. It was him. Kael, the new guard, standing with sweat on his face after training, his cloth mask still covering his mouth.

Their eyes met again. Time seemed to stop.

Mia's hands trembled so hard she almost dropped the bucket. She walked to him slowly and held out the wooden cup.

Kael took the cup. His fingers brushed hers for just a second.

Fire shot through both of them.

Mia gasped softly. Kael's wolf howled with joy inside him.

"Thank you," Kael said in a low voice, his eyes never leaving hers.

Mia wanted to run, but her feet would not move. "You... you are the new guard from the north?"

Kael nodded. He wanted to say so much. I am the boy from the cave. I promised to make you my Luna.

But a captain shouted nearby, and Kael stepped back quickly.

"Be careful here," he whispered urgently. "Do not trust anyone. And... hide your neck. Always."

Mia's face turned pale. How did he know about her neck? Her hand flew to cover her birthmark.

Before she could ask, Kael walked away to join the training line.

That afternoon, danger came.

Ragnor's old witch walked through the training yard with her black crow on her shoulder. Her cold eyes scanned every maid.

She stopped near Mia. Her nose twitched like a snake smelling prey.

"You, girl," the witch croaked. "Lift your head."

Mia's heart pounded. She lifted her head slowly.

The witch stared at her face, then at her neck where a strand of hair had slipped, showing a tiny edge of the crescent mark.

The witch's eyes widened with greed and fear.

"You... come with me," she hissed and grabbed Mia's wrist hard.

Mia cried out in pain. "Please, let me go!"

At that moment, a strong hand caught the witch's arm.

It was Kael. His eyes were cold and dangerous, though his voice was calm.

"Forgive me, wise witch," he said, bowing slightly. "The captain needs this maid to clean the armory now. Urgent orders."

The witch stared at Kael. She felt a strange powerful aura from him, like a hidden king. Her crow cawed nervously.

For a long moment, no one moved.

Then the witch slowly released Mia's wrist, leaving red marks. "Hmm. We will meet again, girl," she whispered and walked away.

Mia was shaking. Tears filled her eyes.

Kael gently pulled her behind a pillar where no one could see. "Are you hurt?"

Mia shook her head, crying softly. "Thank you. She... she looked at me like she wanted to kill me."

Kael's fists tightened. He wanted to kill that witch right there. But he controlled himself.

"Listen to me, Mia," he said softly, using her name for the first time. Her eyes widened. "From now on, stay near the kitchen. Do not walk alone at night. If anyone hurts you, find me. I am Kael, a guard. I will protect you."

"Why... why do you care?" Mia whispered.

Kael looked deep into her kind eyes. His voice was rough with ten years of longing.

"Because the Moon Goddess told me you are mine."

Before Mia could answer, the head-maid's angry shout echoed across the yard. "Mia! Lazy girl! Come back to work!"

Mia ran away quickly, her heart beating wildly, her mind full of questions.

Kael watched her go, his hands shaking with anger and love.

High above, from the tower window, the old witch watched them both. Her face was dark with suspicion.

She turned to Ragnor, who had just entered. "My King, I found something. The new guard is not normal. And that village maid... I think she carries the moon mark."

Ragnor's eyes turned red with rage. "Then watch them both. If the girl is the chosen Luna... kill her before the God Moon!"

The wind blew cold through the palace, and the moon hid behind clouds, as if afraid of what was coming.

Chapter 7: The Secret In The Kitchen

Midnight in the Moon Palace. The great halls were dark and silent.

Only the kitchen still burned with low fire. Pots hung cold. The stone floor was wet from washing.

Mia was alone, scrubbing the last big pot. Her hands were red and cracked from hot water. Her back ached. Tears mixed with sweat on her face.

She was the last maid left. The others had gone to sleep.

Suddenly, the back door opened quietly. Cold night air rushed in.

Mia jumped in fear. "Who is there?"

A tall figure slipped inside and closed the door softly. It was Kael, still in his guard uniform, his face half-covered.

Mia's heart beat fast. "Kael? What are you doing here? You will be punished if they catch you!"

Kael did not answer at first. He looked at her small hands bleeding from work, and his eyes filled with pain and anger.

He walked closer and gently took the heavy pot from her hands. "Stop. Let me help."

"No, please," Mia whispered, trying to take it back. "If the head-maid sees..."

"Let her come," Kael said in a low, dangerous voice. "No one will hurt you while I am here."

He began to scrub the pot with strong, quick movements. Mia stood watching him, confused and touched. No man had ever helped her like this.

"Why are you so kind to me?" she asked softly. "You don't even know me."

Kael stopped scrubbing. He looked up at her with eyes full of ten years of memories.

"I know you, Mia," he said quietly. "More than you think."

Mia's breath caught. "How do you know my name? I never told you."

Kael stood up slowly. He removed the cloth from his face for the first time.

Under the firelight, Mia saw his strong face clearly. A thin scar on his chin. Dark eyes burning with sadness.

Something deep in her memory woke up. A dark cave. A boy with a stick. A sick girl. Bread shared in the cold.

Her lips trembled. "You... you are...?"

Kael nodded, his voice breaking. "The boy in the forest. The boy you saved with bread and herbs. I never forgot you."

Tears rolled down Mia's face. "It was you? At the gate? All this time... you are alive?"

Kael gently wiped her tears with his rough thumb, careful not to hurt her. "Yes. I lived because of you. You gave me food. You saved my sister Elena."

Mia cried softly and smiled at the same time. "I dreamed of you many nights. But I thought it was just a dream."

For a moment, the cruel palace disappeared. They were just two children in a cave again.

Then Kael's face became serious. He took her hand and turned it over, showing the old scars from work.

"Mia, listen," he whispered urgently. "The witch suspects you. She saw your birthmark. You are in great danger."

Mia pulled her hair to cover her neck, afraid. "My mother said this mark is a curse. She said I must hide it."

"No," Kael said firmly. "It is not a curse. It is the Moon Mark. It means the Moon Goddess chose you. It means you are..."

He stopped. His wolf was howling inside him to tell her everything: You are my mate. You will be my Luna, my queen.

But he was afraid. Afraid she would run. Afraid Ragnor would hear.

"It means you are special," he finished softly. "And Ragnor fears special people."

Mia looked down, tears falling. "I am just a poor maid. I have no wolf, no family, no power."

Kael lifted her chin gently so she looked into his eyes. "You have a brave heart. That is stronger than any wolf."

Just then, they heard footsteps outside the kitchen. Heavy boots. Guards on night patrol.

Kael quickly pulled the cloth back over his face. He pushed Mia behind the large water barrels.

"Stay quiet," he breathed.

Two guards entered, holding spears. They looked around lazily.

"Anyone here?" one asked.

"No. Just rats," the other laughed, and they left, slamming the door.

Mia and Kael stayed hidden in the dark behind the barrels, very close. They could hear each other's fast breathing.

Kael's hand was still holding hers. Neither wanted to let go.

Finally, Kael stood and helped her up. "I must go before they come back."

At the door, he turned and looked at her one last time. His voice was soft but full of promise, like ten years ago in the cave.

"Do not be afraid, Mia. I promised to protect you forever. This time, I will keep my promise. When the God Moon comes, everything will change."

Then he disappeared into the dark hallway like a shadow.

Mia stood alone in the warm kitchen, holding her own hand where he had touched her. Her neck mark glowed faintly under her hair, warm and alive.

She did not know that from a small hole in the wall, a pair of old, evil eyes had watched everything.

The old witch smiled her toothless smile in the dark and whispered to her crow, "So... the guard and the maid know each other from the forest. Tell the King. The trap is ready."

The crow flew silently into the night toward Ragnor's chamber.

Chapter 8: Ragnor's Cruel Plan

Ragnor's private chamber was dark and smelled of wine and blood.

The fat king sat on his large bed, his face red and sweaty. The old witch knelt before him, her black crow on her shoulder.

"Speak!" Ragnor shouted, throwing a golden cup at the wall. "What did you see?"

The witch smiled evilly, her voice like dry wood. "My King, the new guard named Kael is no common warrior. Last night I saw him in the kitchen with the village maid. He knows her from childhood. He protects her like a mate protects his Luna."

Ragnor's eyes turned cold. "A mate? That village rat girl?"

"Not just a girl," the witch whispered, leaning closer. "I saw a faint glow on her neck when she cried. I believe she carries the crescent Moon Mark. The mark of the true Luna chosen by the Moon Goddess."

Ragnor stood up so fast his belly shook. Fear and anger mixed on his face. "The true Luna? If she is real, and if she mates with a strong warrior... the packs will follow them! They will take my throne!"

He paced the room like a caged beast, breathing heavily.

Ten years ago he killed his brother for this throne. He would not lose it to a maid and a guard.

"No," he growled. "I will crush them before the God Moon. Bring the girl to me."

The witch's eyes gleamed. "My King is wise. But killing her now will make people talk. Better to use her as bait."

Ragnor stopped. "Bait? Explain."

"If this Kael truly cares for her," the witch said slowly, "he will do anything to save her. We can set a trap at the God Moon Festival. Announce that the maid stole from the palace. Punish her before all the packs. The guard will be forced to reveal himself to save her. Then you can kill them both openly as traitors."

Ragnor laughed loudly, a cruel, ugly laugh that echoed in the stone room. "Good! Very good! Let the whole kingdom watch them die!"

He called his captain. "From tomorrow, give the new guard Kael the hardest duties. Watch him day and night. And bring me the village maid named Mia. I want to see this 'moon-marked' girl myself."

The next morning, Mia was cleaning the queen's old bedroom, now empty and dusty.

Two tall guards suddenly entered and grabbed her arms roughly.

"Ah! Let me go! What did I do?" Mia cried, struggling.

"The King wants to see you," one guard said coldly.

Mia's blood turned to ice. She was dragged through long dark hallways to Ragnor's throne room.

Ragnor sat on the high golden throne, his fat fingers full of rings. He looked down at her like she was an insect.

"So you are the village maid," he said, his voice oily. "Come closer."

Mia trembled and stepped forward, keeping her head down.

"Lift your hair," Ragnor ordered.

Mia's hands shook. "Please, Your Majesty, I have done nothing wrong..."

"LIFT IT!" Ragnor roared.

Mia slowly lifted her long hair, revealing the small crescent-shaped birthmark on her neck. In the daylight it looked pale and harmless.

But Ragnor and the witch saw it glow faintly silver for a second.

The witch gasped. "It is her! The true Luna mark!"

Ragnor's face twisted with hatred and greed. He stood and walked down to Mia.

He grabbed her chin hard, forcing her to look at him. "You poor rat. Do you know what this mark means? It means you could be queen. But a queen needs a king. And I am the king."

Mia's eyes filled with tears of fear. "I don't want to be queen. I just want to work and live in peace."

Ragnor laughed and threw her chin away. "Peace? There is no peace for people like you."

He turned to his guards. "Lock her in the tower room. Give her no food for two days. Let her learn what happens to girls who carry dangerous marks. On the night of the God Moon Festival, she will be punished before all packs as a thief."

"No! Please! I didn't steal anything!" Mia cried as the guards dragged her away.

From behind a pillar in the shadows, Kael watched everything.

He had been standing guard at the door, his fists clenched so tight his nails drew blood. His wolf was roaring inside him to attack, to kill Ragnor now, to save Mia.

But he forced himself to stay still. If he attacked now, they would both die. There were twenty guards. The witch was there with her dark magic.

Wait, he told his wolf. Be patient. I will save her. I promise.

As Mia was dragged past him, their eyes met for one painful second.

Kael gave her a tiny, secret nod. Do not be afraid. I am here.

Mia saw it. And even in her terror, a small warm hope lit in her chest.

That night, Kael stood alone on the palace wall, looking at the small tower window where Mia was locked. No light came from it.

Elena's voice came from the darkness behind him. She had sneaked into the palace dressed as a maid.

"Brother, I heard everything," she whispered urgently. "Ragnor will use Mia to trap you."

Kael's eyes burned like fire in the night. "Then I will turn his trap into his grave."

He touched the leather-wrapped ring on his finger. "Tell our warriors in the mountains to be ready. On the night of the God Moon, I will no longer hide. I will challenge Ragnor before all the packs. For my father. For Mia. For the throne."

Above them, the moon was growing fuller each night, counting down to the God Moon.

And in the dark tower, Mia hugged her knees, cold and hungry, whispering to herself, "Kael... you promised to protect me. Please... keep your promise."

Chapter 8: Ragnor's Cruel Plan

And in the dark tower, Mia hugged her knees, cold and hungry, whispering to herself, "Kael... you promised to protect me. Please... keep your promise."

Chapter 9: The Night Before The God Moon

The Moon Palace was busy like a disturbed beehive.

Servants ran everywhere, hanging silver lanterns and white flowers for the God Moon Festival tomorrow night. Warriors polished their armor. Cooks killed chickens and pigs for the great feast. Music players practiced drums.

Everyone smiled and talked, excited for the festival.

Everyone except two people.

In the dark tower room, Mia sat on the cold stone floor. Her dress was dirty. Her lips were dry. She had not eaten for two days.

But her eyes were not broken. She held her mother's shawl tightly around her shoulders and whispered prayers to the Moon Goddess.

"Goddess, I am not a thief. You know my heart. Please... give me strength."

A small sound came from the tiny window. A black crow landed, but this crow was different. It had kind eyes.

It dropped a small piece of bread on the windowsill and cawed softly before flying away.

Mia picked up the bread with shaking hands. Tears fell. "Thank you," she whispered, not knowing that Kael had trained that crow in the mountains.

On the other side of the palace, in the guards' barracks, Kael was preparing for war.

He sat alone in a dark corner, sharpening his father's old sword that Elena had smuggled to him inside a bag of rice. The sword glowed faintly with old Alpha power.

Elena sat beside him, dressed as a kitchen maid, her face serious.

"Brother, our warriors are ready," she whispered. "Fifty of father's loyal wolves are hiding in the forest outside the palace walls. They will enter as festival dancers tomorrow night when the drums are loud."

Kael nodded, his face calm but his eyes burning. "Good. And the packs?"

"Many Alphas are already angry at Ragnor," Elena said. "They are tired of his cruelty and heavy taxes. If you show them you are the true prince and challenge him fairly under the God Moon, they will support you. It is our law."

Kael touched the leather on his finger. Tonight he would remove it. Tomorrow night, everyone would see the black Alpha ring.

"And Mia?" Elena asked softly.

Kael's hand tightened on the sword. "Tomorrow Ragnor plans to punish her as a thief in front of everyone. He wants to force me to reveal myself."

"Then what will you do?" Elena asked, afraid.

Kael stood up. His tall shadow covered the wall like a king.

"I will let him," he said in a deep, powerful voice. "I am done hiding. Tomorrow night, under the full God Moon, I will step forward before all the packs. I will claim Mia as my mate. I will challenge Ragnor for the throne. Let the Goddess decide."

That night, Kael did something very dangerous.

He climbed the palace wall like a cat in the dark, avoiding the patrols, until he reached the small tower window where Mia was locked.

"Mia," he whispered.

Mia, half-asleep on the floor, woke up and crawled to the window. When she saw his face in the moonlight, she cried softly with joy.

"Kael! You came!"

Kael reached his hand through the iron bars and held her cold fingers. His touch was warm.

"Listen to me," he said urgently but gently. "Tomorrow night is the God Moon Festival. Ragnor will bring you to the great square and lie that you are a thief. Do not be afraid. Do not cry. Stand tall."

Mia's tears fell. "But they will whip me... or worse."

"No," Kael said firmly, his eyes shining with promise. "Because before they can touch you, I will come for you. Before all the Alphas, before the whole kingdom. I will tell everyone who I really am."

"Who are you really?" Mia whispered, her heart pounding.

Kael looked at the full moon above them, almost complete. He unwrapped the leather from his father's ring for a second, letting the black stone shine in the moonlight.

"I am Kael, son of Alpha King Torin," he said in a low royal voice. "The lost prince. And you, Mia, are my chosen mate, my secret bride."

Mia gasped, her hand covering her mouth. "Prince? Mate? Kael... this is too much..."

Kael squeezed her fingers through the bars. "I know you feel it too. The pull in your heart. The warmth when we touch. That is the mate bond. The Moon Goddess made you for me ten years ago in that cave."

Mia touched her glowing crescent mark, which was warm now. "I feel it," she admitted softly, crying. "I have always felt it."

"Then trust me tomorrow," Kael said. "Wear your courage like a crown. I will not let anyone hurt you again. I swear on my father's blood."

He kissed her fingers gently through the bars, then disappeared into the night before the guards came.

Mia sat back down, but she was no longer the scared hungry maid. Her heart was full of fire.

She looked at the almost-full moon and whispered, "Tomorrow, everything changes."

In his dark chamber, Ragnor drank wine and laughed with his witch.

"Tomorrow, the little prince will crawl out of hiding to save his little maid," Ragnor said cruelly. "And tomorrow, I will cut off his head before all the packs and keep my throne forever."

The witch smiled, but her old eyes were worried. She had seen the moon tonight. It was brighter and whiter than ever before, as if the Moon Goddess herself was watching and angry.

"The moon is strong tomorrow, my King," she warned. "Be careful."

Ragnor threw his cup down. "I am the King! No moon, no goddess, no lost prince can stop me!"

Outside, the wind howled through the palace, carrying the scent of coming blood and destiny.

Chapter 10: The God Moon Festival

The night of the God Moon had come.

The sky was clear and the full moon was huge, white and bright, pouring silver light over the Moon Palace like the Goddess herself was watching.

The great square was full of people. Thousands of torches burned. Drums beat loudly.

Alphas from twelve packs sat on high chairs in a circle, wearing their finest furs and gold. Their warriors stood behind them. Common wolves and servants crowded behind.

In the center was a high wooden platform for punishment.

Ragnor sat on his golden throne on the platform, fat and proud, wearing a red royal robe and a heavy crown. He smiled cruelly, sure of victory.

The old witch stood beside him, her crow on her shoulder, her eyes scanning the crowd for Kael.

The drums stopped. Silence fell.

"Bring the thief!" Ragnor shouted.

Two guards dragged Mia onto the platform. She was thin and pale from two days without food, her maid dress torn, her hands tied with rope. But she held her head high, just as Kael had told her.

The crowd murmured. "She is just a small maid. What did she steal?"

Ragnor stood and pointed at her. "This village girl stole a silver moon necklace from my chamber! She is a thief and a liar! Under the law of the God Moon, she will be whipped fifty times!"

Mia's heart pounded, but she remembered Kael's words: Stand tall. Do not cry.

She lifted her chin and spoke in a clear, brave voice that surprised everyone. "I did not steal anything! I am innocent! The Moon Goddess knows my heart!"

The crowd gasped. A poor maid daring to speak against the King?

Ragnor's face turned red with anger. "Whip her! Now!"

A tall executioner with a leather whip stepped forward.

Mia closed her eyes and prayed. Kael... where are you?

Just as the whip was raised high in the air...

"STOP!"

A deep, powerful roar shook the entire square. It was not a human voice. It was an Alpha's roar, full of kingly power that made every wolf's knees tremble.

The crowd turned.

From the shadows of the palace gate, a tall warrior walked forward slowly.

It was Kael. But he was no longer dressed as a simple guard.

He wore black warrior armor that shone in the moonlight. His cloth mask was gone. His face was proud and fierce. On his right hand, the black Alpha King's ring glowed with ancient power.

Behind him walked Elena in a silver dress, and fifty strong warriors in mountain furs.

Every step Kael took made the torches flicker. His wolf aura was so strong that even the Alphas stood up in shock.

Ragnor jumped from his throne, his face pale. "You! The guard! How dare you interrupt!"

Kael did not look at Ragnor. He looked only at Mia on the platform.

He climbed the steps calmly, pushed the executioner aside with one hand like he was paper, and cut Mia's ropes with his sword.

Then he took off his own black cloak and wrapped it gently around her shaking shoulders.

"Are you hurt?" he whispered softly, only for her.

Mia looked up at him with tears and love. "You came. You really came."

Kael turned to face the crowd and Ragnor. His voice rang out clear across the silent square, reaching every ear.

"I am Kael, son of Alpha King Torin! The true heir to the Moon Throne! Ten years ago, this murderer Ragnor killed my father and stole the throne!"

He pointed his sword at Ragnor. The black ring on his finger shone bright under the God Moon.

"And this girl is not a thief! She is Mia, bearer of the Crescent Moon Mark! Chosen by the Moon Goddess herself to be my mate and your Luna!"

He gently moved Mia's hair aside, revealing her neck.

Under the full God Moon, the crescent birthmark glowed bright silver, so bright everyone could see it. A soft holy light spread from it.

The crowd gasped and many knelt instantly. "The Moon Mark! It is true! The Goddess has chosen!"

The twelve Alphas looked at each other in shock and awe. The old law was clear: the true heir with the true Luna must be honored.

Ragnor trembled with rage and fear. "Lies! Kill him! Kill them both! Whoever kills him will get a thousand gold!"

But no warrior moved. They were frozen by Kael's true Alpha power and by the glowing mark of the Goddess.

The old witch tried to chant a dark spell, but Elena threw a handful of moon-herbs at her. The witch screamed as her crow flew away in fear.

Kael stepped forward, his sword pointing at Ragnor's throat.

"Ragnor, son of no honor," Kael said in a royal, deadly voice. "I challenge you for the throne. Under the God Moon. Before all packs. Alpha to Alpha. To death."

The drums began to beat slowly. The crowd held its breath.

Ragnor had no choice. To refuse a challenge under the God Moon was to lose all honor.

He pulled out his own heavy sword, his fat hands shaking. "I accept, boy. I will finish what I started ten years ago!"

The great fight for the Moon Kingdom was about to begin.

Mia stood behind Kael, holding his cloak, her moon mark glowing, praying with all her heart.

Moon Goddess, protect him. Protect my mate. Protect my secret bridegroom.

The full moon shone brighter than ever, ready to judge.

Chapter 11: Blood Under The Moon

The great square was silent. Even the wind stopped.

Two Alphas faced each other on the punishment platform under the huge God Moon.

On one side, Ragnor. Fat, sweaty, in a red royal robe now torn open to show his armor underneath. He held a heavy golden sword with both hands. His eyes were red with fear and madness.

On the other side, Kael. Tall, calm, in black armor. He held his father's silver sword lightly in one hand. The black Alpha ring glowed on his finger. His eyes were steady like a true king.

Mia was moved to the side, protected by Elena and fifty mountain warriors in a circle. Her moon mark still glowed softly. She held her breath, her hands clasped in prayer.

The oldest Alpha of the twelve packs, Alpha Bram with white hair, stepped forward as judge. His voice shook with age and power.

"Under the law of the Moon Goddess, on the night of the God Moon, a challenge for the throne is sacred! Fight until one yields or dies! No one may interfere!"

He raised his hand, then dropped it. "BEGIN!"

Ragnor roared like a wild boar and charged first, swinging his heavy sword down with all his fat strength.

Kael moved like water. He stepped aside easily, and Ragnor's sword hit the wooden platform with a loud CRACK, breaking the wood.

The crowd gasped.

Kael did not attack yet. He circled calmly, watching.

"You killed my father with poison and a knife in the dark," Kael said coldly, his voice carrying. "You are not a warrior. You are a coward."

Ragnor's face turned purple. "Shut up! I am the King!"

He swung again and again, wildly. Kael blocked each blow with his father's sword, sparks flying in the moonlight. CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

Kael was faster. He was stronger. His wolf was the true Alpha bloodline.

After a few minutes, Ragnor was panting heavily, sweat pouring down his face. His arms were tired.

Kael saw his chance. He moved forward like lightning and cut Ragnor's cheek. Blood flowed.

The crowd cheered.

Ragnor screamed in pain and rage. He suddenly threw dirt from the platform into Kael's eyes!

"Ah!" Kael stumbled back, blind for a second.

Ragnor laughed cruelly and stabbed forward.

The sword pierced Kael's left shoulder. Blood sprayed red in the moonlight.

"No!" Mia screamed, trying to run forward, but Elena held her tightly. "Kael!"

Kael gritted his teeth against the pain. He pulled the sword out of his own shoulder with a grunt, blood running down his black armor.

His eyes turned golden. His true Alpha wolf rose inside him.

"You fight without honor," Kael growled, his voice deeper now, shaking the air. "So I will end you without mercy."

He attacked.

His sword moved so fast it was a blur of silver moonlight. He cut Ragnor's sword arm, then his leg. Ragnor fell to his knees with a heavy thud.

"Please! Mercy!" Ragnor begged, crawling back, his crown falling off and rolling on the ground. "I am your uncle! Have mercy!"

Kael stood over him, his sword at Ragnor's fat throat, his shoulder bleeding but his back straight like a king.

He looked at the twelve Alphas, at the thousands of wolves watching.

"Ten years ago, he showed my father no mercy," Kael said loudly. "He killed my mother. He burned my home. He made my people suffer with cruel taxes."

He looked down at Ragnor. "But I am not you."

For a moment, everyone thought Kael would spare him.

Then the old witch suddenly screamed from the side, "My King, get up! Kill him!" She threw a black poisoned dagger toward Ragnor.

Ragnor caught it and stabbed upward at Kael's heart!

But Mia screamed, "KAEL! LOOK OUT!"

Kael turned just in time. The dagger cut his side instead of his heart.

With a final roar of pain and fury, Kael brought his father's sword down.

In one clean strike under the God Moon, Ragnor's reign of terror ended.

Silence fell over the square. The fat king lay still on the broken platform.

Kael stood breathing hard, blood dripping from his shoulder and side, but victorious. He raised his bloody sword to the moon.

"The tyrant is dead!" he shouted.

The twelve Alphas knelt first, bowing their heads. Then the warriors. Then thousands of common wolves. A wave of kneeling spread across the square.

"Hail Alpha King Kael! Hail the true King!"

Elena ran to her brother, crying and laughing, holding his arm to support him.

Mia broke free and ran onto the platform. She did not care about the blood. She threw her arms around Kael, crying into his chest.

"You are alive! You are alive!" she sobbed.

Kael held her tightly with his good arm, pressing his forehead to hers, his golden eyes soft now.

"I promised you in the cave," he whispered so only she could hear. "I promised to make you my Luna. Now the whole kingdom has seen my secret bride."

Mia looked up at him, her moon mark glowing bright and warm. "Then keep your promise, my King."

Kael smiled through the pain. He turned to the crowd, holding Mia's hand high.

"Wolves of the Moon Kingdom! This is Mia! My fated mate! Chosen by the Moon Goddess! Will you accept her as your Luna Queen?"

The roar of the crowd shook the palace walls.

"YES! LUNA MIA! LUNA MIA!"

Under the full God Moon, with blood on his armor and his true love in his arms, Kael finally took back his father's throne.

But in the shadows at the edge of the square, the old witch picked up Ragnor's fallen crown and disappeared into the dark with hatred in her eyes, whispering, "This is not over. The north wolves will come..."

Chapter 12: The Luna's Crown

Three days after the God Moon, the Moon Palace was filled with music and light instead of fear.

Ragnor's dark red banners had been torn down. In their place hung silver banners with the black wolf of King Torin, Kael's father.

Kael's wounds were healing fast because he was a strong Alpha, but he still wore a white bandage on his shoulder. He sat on the throne, no longer the simple guard, but a true king in a black and silver royal robe. The black Alpha ring shone proudly on his finger.

The twelve Alphas had stayed for the coronation of the Luna.

In the queen's chambers, Mia was getting ready, and she was terrified.

"No, no, I cannot do this," Mia whispered, looking at herself in the large silver mirror. She wore a beautiful white dress made of soft moon-silk, with silver threads that sparkled like stars. Her long hair was washed and braided with white flowers. The crescent mark on her neck glowed faintly, no longer hidden.

Elena, now a princess in a blue dress, stood behind her, fixing her veil. "You look beautiful, sister," Elena said with tears of joy. "My brother has loved you since you were children sharing bread in a cave. You were born for this."

"But I am just a maid," Mia said, her hands shaking. "I don't know how to be a queen. I don't know the dances, the laws..."

Elena held her hands gently. "You know how to be kind. You know how to be brave. You stood tall when Ragnor called you a thief. That is what a Luna does. She protects her people with her heart."

A knock came. It was time.

The great hall was full. Hundreds of wolves from all packs stood in silence as music played softly.

Kael waited at the end of the red carpet, standing tall before the Moon Altar. His golden eyes softened when he saw Mia enter.

She walked slowly, her legs trembling, holding a basket of moon-herbs as tradition demanded. Every eye was on her, but she looked only at Kael.

When she reached him, Kael took her hands. They were cold.

"Are you afraid?" he whispered with a small smile.

"Very," Mia admitted honestly.

Kael squeezed her hands warmly. "Don't be. I am here. I will always be here."

Alpha Bram, the oldest, stepped forward with a silver crown made of moonflowers and wolf teeth, the ancient Luna's Crown.

He placed it gently on Mia's head.

"Mia, bearer of the Moon Mark," Bram said loudly. "Do you accept to be Luna Queen? To protect the weak, to heal the sick, to stand beside your King with courage and love?"

Mia looked at Kael, then at the crowd of hopeful faces. She thought of her mother, of the poor village, of all the maids who suffered.

Her voice was soft at first, then strong. "I accept. I will serve with all my heart."

The crowd erupted in cheers. "LUNA MIA! LUNA MIA!"

Kael lifted her hand and kissed it before everyone. Then, breaking tradition, he pulled her into a gentle hug and whispered, "My secret bride is secret no more."

Mia laughed through her tears.

That night, there was a great feast. For the first time in ten years, the servants ate at the same tables as the warriors. Kael ordered the taxes to be lowered. He freed the tower prisoners.

Mia walked among the people, touching the hands of old women and children, listening to their stories. She promised to build a healing house for the poor.

Later, on the balcony under the moon, Kael and Mia stood alone.

Kael took off his black Alpha ring and showed her the inside. Carved in tiny letters were two names: KAEL + MIA.

"I had the smith carve it after I saw you at the gate," he confessed. "I knew then I would make you mine."

Mia touched the ring, then touched the scar on his shoulder where he had been wounded for her. "You almost died for me."

"I would die a thousand times for you," Kael said seriously. He gently lifted her chin. "Mia, will you complete the mate bond with me tonight? Under the moon that chose us?"

Mia's cheeks turned red, but her eyes were full of love and trust. She nodded slowly. "Yes. I am yours. I have always been yours since that day in the forest."

Kael leaned down and kissed her softly, sweetly, under the silver moonlight. Her moon mark glowed warm against his skin, and his wolf howled with pure joy.

It was not just a kiss. It was a promise kept after ten long years.

Far away in the northern mountains, the old witch knelt before a new, cruel Alpha with ice-blue eyes, offering him Ragnor's broken crown.

"My lord," she hissed. "The lost prince has taken the throne. But he has a weakness now. A Luna with a glowing neck. A Luna he loves more than his life."

The northern Alpha smiled coldly, his fangs sharp. "Then we will take his throne... by taking his heart."

The wind carried the threat south toward the Moon Palace, where the new King and Luna slept peacefully, unaware that a new storm was coming.

Chapter 13: Whispers From The North

One month had passed since Mia was crowned Luna.

The Moon Palace was peaceful again. The broken walls were rebuilt. Children played in the courtyard where warriors once bled. In the healing house Mia built, the smell of herbs replaced the smell of fear.

But Kael could not sleep.

Every night he stood on the high balcony, looking north toward the ice mountains. His wolf was restless, pacing inside him.

"They are coming," he whispered to the wind.

Mia came behind him and wrapped a warm cloak around his shoulders. Her moon mark glowed softly in the dark, and the silver Luna's crown rested on her bedside table now, not on her head. At night she was just his wife.

"You have the same dream again?" she asked softly, touching his scarred shoulder.

Kael nodded and pulled her close. "I hear drums in the snow. I smell ice and blood."

Before Mia could answer, a horn blew loudly from the watchtower. A warning horn.

Guards shouted. Torches were lit.

A single rider galloped through the palace gate, his horse foaming, his armor covered in frost. He fell from his horse into Kael's arms.

"My King..." the scout gasped, his lips blue from cold. "The Northern Pack... Alpha Vorik... he has crossed the Frozen River with two thousand wolves..."

The courtyard went silent.

Mia's hand tightened on Kael's.

"Vorik?" Elder Bram hurried forward, his face pale. "The Ice Alpha? He was banished twenty years ago by your father for practicing dark magic."

The scout nodded weakly. "He carries Ragnor's broken crown on his spear. He says... he says the throne belongs to the strongest, and he will take it by taking your heart."

Kael's eyes turned cold gold. He understood. The old witch had kept her promise.

"How long do we have?" Kael asked.

"Ten days, my King. Maybe less. They march only at night."

That night, the war council met. Twelve Alphas sat around the stone table, their faces grim.

"We just finished one war," Alpha Soren said. "Our warriors are tired."

"We cannot run," Kael said firmly, standing. "Vorik does not want land. He wants revenge. If we hide, he will burn every village until he finds us."

He looked at Mia, who sat beside him not as a maid, but as Luna Queen.

Mia stood up. Her voice was calm but strong. "Then we will not hide. My healing house will become a war hospital. I will train every woman and old wolf who can hold a bow. We survived Ragnor. We will survive ice."

The Alphas looked at her with new respect and bowed their heads.

Later, alone in their chamber, Kael held Mia's face in his hands.

"Vorik wants you," he said painfully. "The witch told him you are my weakness. I should send you to the mountain caves where you will be safe."

Mia shook her head, tears in her eyes but fire in her voice. "I am not your weakness, Kael. I am your strength. Did you not crown me to stand beside you? I will not hide while you bleed."

She placed his hand over her glowing moon mark. "Where you go, I go. That was our promise in the forest when we were children."

Kael kissed her forehead, his heart breaking with love and fear.

Outside, the north wind howled louder, carrying the whisper of approaching wolves.

The peace of the Luna's Crown was over. A colder storm was coming.

Chapter 15: Training The Luna

The seven days before the Blood Moon Duel were the longest of Mia's life.

Every morning before sunrise, while black snow still fell softly, Mia met the old Priestess Yara in the Moon Temple. The temple was cold and empty, lit only by silver candles.

"Your mark is a gift, child, but also a weapon," Yara said, her wrinkled hands touching the glowing crescent on Mia's neck. "Ragnor feared it. Vorik wants to steal it. You must learn to control it before he tries."

"But I only know how to heal," Mia whispered. "I closed Kael's wounds. I helped sick children. I don't know how to fight."

Yara smiled. "Healing and shielding are the same power. To heal, you give warmth. To shield, you make that warmth into a wall."

For hours, Mia practiced. Yara would throw small stones at her, and Mia had to focus on her mark until a faint silver light appeared around her skin and the stones bounced off.

At first, she failed. The stones hit her arms and made her cry.

"I can't," Mia sobbed on the third day.

Yara held her face. "Think of who you are protecting. Not yourself. Think of him."

Mia closed her eyes and thought of Kael. She thought of the boy in the forest who shared his bread. The guard who secretly married her. The king who bled for her.

Her mark burned hot, and a bright silver shield burst from her body, knocking Yara back a step.

"Yes," Yara breathed. "That is Luna power."

Meanwhile, in the training yard, Kael trained with a fury no one had ever seen. He fought ten warriors at once, his sword moving like lightning. Sweat mixed with blood from old wounds reopening. He would not stop.

Darian, Elena's mate who had stayed to fight, tried to stop him on the fifth day. "My King, you will kill yourself before the duel."

Kael's golden eyes were wild. "Vorik” is  stronger than Ragnor. He uses ice magic. If I am slow for one second, he will kill me and take Mia."

That night, Mia found Kael in their chamber, his hands shaking, his body covered in bruises.

She did not speak. She placed her glowing hands on his chest, and warm silver light flowed into him. His pain faded. His breathing calmed.

Then she did something new. She focused, and a thin silver shield wrapped around Kael like second skin. It shimmered for a moment, then became invisible.

"What did you do?" Kael asked, amazed. He felt stronger, lighter.

"I am your shield now," Mia said softly, kissing his scarred shoulder. "When Vorik strikes you with ice, my power will protect you. But you must stay close to me in spirit. Think of our bond."

Kael pulled her into his arms and held her tightly. "If I die..."

"Don't say that," Mia interrupted, placing a finger on his lips. "You will live. We will live. After this, no more wars. Just us."

On the seventh day, the black snow stopped. The sky turned a deep, bloody red.

The Blood Moon was rising.

Warriors lit torches around the great arena. Two thousand northern wolves waited on the hills, watching. The twelve Alphas watched from the stands, with Mia in the center wearing white, her mark glowing openly for all to see.

Kael walked into the arena in simple black armor, no crown. Vorik was already there, tall and pale, his spear of ice in his hand, Ragnor's broken crown still tied to it.

"Little king," Vorik smiled coldly. "You brought your heart to watch you die. How romantic."

Kael drew his sword. His eyes never left Vorik, but his heart was locked on Mia.

He could feel her warm shield humming around his skin.

"For my Luna," Kael whispered. "For my people."

The Blood Moon reached its peak, turning the snow red.

The duel began

Chapter 16: Betrayed By A Kiss

The Blood Moon Duel had begun, and the whole world seemed to hold its breath.

Vorik moved first. He was impossibly fast, his ice spear leaving trails of frost in the red air. He struck at Kael's heart.

Kael blocked with his sword, and the clash rang out like thunder. Ice shards flew.

Mia stood in the royal box, her hands clenched so tightly her nails cut her palms. Every time Vorik hit Kael, she pushed more of her silver power through their mate bond. She could feel Kael's pain as her own. She could feel her shield holding, barely.

"He is strong," Elena whispered beside her, holding Darian's hand.

For an hour they fought. Snow and blood mixed on the arena floor. Kael was bleeding from a cut on his leg. Vorik was bleeding from a cut on his shoulder. Both were tiring.

Then Vorik did something no one expected.

He stepped back, dropped his spear, and smiled at Mia.

"Beautiful Luna," he called out, his voice carrying by magic to her ears alone. "Do you know why your mark burns when I am near?"

Mia frowned. Her mark was burning hot.

Vorik raised his hand. In his palm was a small silver locket, the same locket Mia's mother had given her when she was a child in the village, the locket she lost the night the king died.

Mia gasped. "How do you have that?"

"The old witch did not just serve Ragnor," Vorik said softly, so only Mia could hear through their strange connection. "She served me first. She stole you as a baby from the Moon Temple where you were born to be a priestess. She gave you to a village woman to hide your power until the time was right."

"Liar!" Mia whispered, but tears fell.

"Come to me willingly with a kiss to seal your surrender, and I will let Kael live," Vorik promised, his ice-blue eyes sincere. "Refuse, and my next strike will shatter his heart. Your shield is breaking, little Luna. I can feel it."

In the arena, Vorik suddenly lunged. His claws, covered in black ice magic, tore through Mia's silver shield and sank deep into Kael's chest.

Kael screamed and fell to one knee.

"No!" Mia screamed.

The crowd rose in panic. Elena tried to hold Mia back, but Mia broke free.

She ran down the stone steps, past the guards, into the arena. She ran to Kael, who was coughing blood, his golden eyes dim.

"Mia, no... stay back..." he choked.

Vorik stood over them, smiling. "The Luna comes to save her mate. How sweet."

Mia knelt beside Kael, tears falling on his face. She placed her hands on his wound and healed it with a burst of silver light, but she knew it would not last.

She looked up at Vorik. "If I kiss you... you will let him live? Swear by the Moon Goddess."

"I swear," Vorik said.

"Don't!" Kael grabbed her wrist weakly. "Mia, please..."

Mia kissed Kael's forehead gently, her tears falling. "Forgive me."

Then she stood and walked to Vorik.

The arena was dead silent.

Vorik bent his pale face toward her. Mia stood on her toes and pressed her lips to his cold cheek, not his lips, a betrayal that burned her soul.

The moment her skin touched his, her moon mark flared blindingly bright, and Vorik laughed triumphantly as he grabbed her wrist.

"The power is mine!" he shouted.

But he did not see the small silver dagger Mia had hidden in her sleeve, the dagger Yara had given her, blessed by the Moon Goddess.

As Vorik pulled her close, Mia drove the dagger deep into his side where his heart beat under the ice.

Vorik's eyes widened in shock. "You..."

Mia's voice was steel. "I am not a prize. I am a Luna."

Kael roared and rose behind them, his sword glowing with Mia's silver light, and with one final strike, he cut through Vorik's ice armor.

The Ice Alpha fell into the red snow, defeated not by strength alone, but by a Luna's betrayal kiss that was really a trap.

Chapter 17: The Last Fight For The Alpha King

Vorik lay in the red snow, the blessed silver dagger still in his side, Kael's sword cut deep across his chest. But the Ice Alpha was not dead.

Black ice crawled from his wound, freezing his blood. His eyes turned completely white.

"You think a little knife can kill winter?" he hissed, rising to his full height. The air around him dropped so cold that torches flickered and died. "I will freeze this entire palace with you in it!"

He slammed his hands into the ground. A wave of black ice shot out in all directions, racing toward the stands where Elena, Darian, and the twelve Alphas sat. It raced toward Mia.

Kael moved without thinking.

He threw himself in front of Mia, taking the full blast of ice magic on his back. His armor froze instantly. His skin turned blue. He screamed in pain but did not fall.

"Kael!" Mia cried, pouring all her healing light into him. Her mark was dimming. She had used too much power.

Vorik laughed and raised his ice spear again, now twice as large, made of pure dark magic. "Die together, then!"

This was the last fight. Kael knew it. His body was breaking. His wolf was tired.

But then he heard voices.

"For the King!" Darian shouted, leaping into the arena with Elena beside him, both in wolf form.

"For the Luna!" Alpha Soren and the other eleven Alphas shifted and ran down, forming a circle around Kael and Mia.

Even old Priestess Yara stood on the temple steps, raising her staff, chanting to the Moon Goddess.

It was no longer a duel. It was a pack protecting its Alpha.

Vorik snarled. "You break the honor code!"

"You broke it first when you threatened our Luna," Kael said, standing slowly, his golden eyes now glowing like twin suns. He felt Mia's hand in his, and the strength of every wolf behind him flowing into him.

Mia placed her forehead against his back, giving him the last of her silver light. "Together," she whispered.

Kael raised his sword high. It caught the light of the Blood Moon and Mia's silver power, turning into a blade of pure moon fire.

Vorik threw his giant ice spear.

Kael swung his sword.

Moonfire met black ice in a blinding explosion that shook the mountains. Snow melted. The red moon turned silver for a moment.

When the light faded, Vorik was on his knees. His spear was gone. The black ice was melting from his body. The Ragnor's broken crown tied to his old spear lay shattered in the snow.

Kael stood over him, sword at his throat, breathing hard, his body supported by Mia.

"Kill me," Vorik whispered. "It is the way."

Kael looked at Mia. Mia shook her head gently. "We have had enough killing."

Kael lowered his sword. "No. You will live, and you will take your two thousand wolves back across the Frozen River and never return. Tell every pack what happened here. Tell them the Moon Palace is protected not by one Alpha, but by a Luna's love."

Vorik stared in disbelief, then bowed his head in shame and defeat. He shifted into his wounded black wolf and limped away. His army on the hills howled once, then followed their Alpha north, disappearing into the night.

The Blood Moon faded. The black snow stopped forever.

Kael collapsed into Mia's arms as the crowd erupted in cheers. He was alive. They were all alive.

The last fight for the Alpha King was over, and he had won not by killing, but by mercy.

Chapter 18: Crowned Under The God Moon

One year had passed since the Blood Moon Duel.

The Moon Palace had never been more beautiful. White flowers covered the rebuilt walls. Banners of silver and gold flew from every tower. The people wore their finest clothes.

Tonight was the God Moon, the largest moon in a hundred years, and it was time for the true coronation.

Kael stood on the high balcony, looking at the huge silver moon rising. He was no longer the scarred guard in a mask. He wore the black and gold robes of the Alpha King, and the crown of his father, now repaired, sat on his head.

But his hands shook.

Mia came behind him, wearing a dress of pure moonlight silver. Her long hair was braided with white flowers. The crescent mark on her neck glowed softly, no longer hidden.

"You are nervous?" she teased, taking his hand.

Kael smiled. "I have fought Ragnor. I have fought Vorik. But standing before our people and promising to be a good king... that scares me more."

Mia kissed his scarred cheek. "You already are."

Below, the great courtyard was full. Twelve Alphas in ceremonial furs. Elena in princess blue, holding Darian's hand, her belly round with their first pup. Old Priestess Yara with her silver staff. Thousands of wolves from every pack, even some from the north who had come to ask forgiveness.

Priestess Yara raised her staff. "Bring forth the King and his Luna!"

Kael and Mia walked down the moonlit steps together, hand in hand. The crowd knelt.

Yara placed a new crown, smaller and made of silver moonstone, on Mia's head.

"Mia, chosen of the Moon Goddess," Yara declared loudly. "From secret bride to public Luna Queen! Do you vow to protect the weak, heal the sick, and stand beside your King with wisdom and love?"

"I vow," Mia said, her voice clear and strong.

Yara turned to Kael. "Kael, son of Torin, Alpha King! Do you vow to rule with justice, not fear, and to love your Luna above all?"

"I vow," Kael said, looking only at Mia.

Under the God Moon, they kissed, and the entire palace howled with joy. The moonlight seemed to shine brighter, blessing them.

After the ceremony, Kael took Mia to the quiet forest where they first met as children.

"Do you remember?" he asked, pointing to the old oak tree. "You gave me bread here."

Mia laughed, tears in her eyes. "And you promised to marry me."

"I kept my promise," Kael whispered, pulling her close. "Even when you forgot, I remembered."

Above them, the God Moon glowed full and perfect, witness to the secret bride who was now a queen, crowned not in shadows, but in light for all the world to see.

Chapter 19: Epilogue: My Secret Luna, My Public Queen

Five years later, under a soft spring moon.

The Moon Palace gardens were quiet. The war banners were gone, replaced by children's laughter.

Mia sat on a stone bench by the moonflowers, her silver crown resting in her lap. She was watching two small pups play in the grass.

A boy, four years old, with Kael's golden eyes and Mia's brave smile, was trying to teach his little sister, two years old with a tiny crescent mark on her cheek, how to pounce.

"Like this, Lyra!" Prince Torin said, puffing out his chest. "Be fierce!"

Lyra giggled and fell over.

Mia laughed, her heart full.

Strong arms wrapped around her from behind. Kael kissed the top of her head. He no longer wore his crown every day, only his simple wedding band made of moonstone.

"My secret Luna," he whispered in her ear, the old nickname from their days as guard and maid.

Mia turned and smiled up at her husband, her king. "I am not secret anymore, my love. I am your public queen."

"I know," Kael said, sitting beside her and pulling her close. "But you will always be my secret first. My secret promise in the forest. My secret bride under the moon. My secret strength in every battle."

Elena walked by with Darian, their three pups running ahead. "Stop being romantic, brother, and come! The feast is ready!"

Kael stood and lifted Torin onto his shoulders, and picked up little Lyra in his arms. Mia took his free hand.

As they walked toward the palace, now full of light and music instead of fear, Mia looked up at the moon.

She thought of the village maid who once scrubbed floors, afraid of her own mark. She thought of the boy in the forest who shared his bread.

The Moon Goddess had kept her promise. What was lost had been found. What was hidden had been crowned.

Kael squeezed her hand. "What are you thinking, my Luna?"

Mia smiled, leaning her head on his shoulder. "That our story is just beginning."

And under the watchful eye of the moon, the Alpha King and his Luna Queen, once secret, now eternal, walked home together.
