I Think i am becoming someone i don’t know
I noticed it recently.Someone asked me what had been going on with me.
I had things to say. A lot of them, actually. But I just said,
“nothing much.”
I don’t know when that became my favourite answer.
There was a time when I wanted to explain everything.
Why something bothered me.
Why someone’s silence hurt.
Why I suddenly didn’t feel like talking.
I thought if I explained myself properly, people would understand.
“Now, I don’t explain much”.
Not because nothing matters anymore.
Maybe I just got tired of turning feelings into sentences.
Sometimes you tell someone what happened, and they give you an answer.
But the answer doesn’t change how it felt.
So eventually, you stop asking.
You learn to sit with things. You go to college.
You come home. You listen to music on the way.
You laugh when someone says something stupid.
Your day looks completely normal from the outside.
And perhaps that is the strangest part.
Nothing looks different.
You are the same person in photographs.
Same face.
Same voice.
Same jokes.
But somewhere between one year and the next, you become a little harder to reach.
You stop checking whether someone noticed you were quiet.
You stop wondering why a message took so long.
You stop expecting people to notice the things you never say.
And nobody really sees it happen.
They just meet you one day and say,
“you’ve changed.”
You usually laugh. You usually smile
What else are you supposed to say?
Because you don’t know how to explain that you didn’t wake up one morning and become different. It happened quietly. In all the moments when you decided not to say something.
In all the times you said “it’s okay” when it wasn’t.
In every little disappointment you told yourself wasn’t worth mentioning.
Maybe that is how people change. Not all at once. A little bit every time they realise there is no point explaining what someone has already decided not to understand. And sometimes I wonder about the person I used to be.The one who cared too loudly.
The one who expected too much.
The one who could tell someone everything without first wondering whether it was safe to.
I don’t think I miss him.
I just wonder where he went.
Because I don’t think I became colder.
I think I simply became someone who learned to keep more things to himself. And perhaps nobody noticed.
Not even me. It may be
Until someone asked,
“Why don’t you tell me things anymore?”
And for the first time, “ I didn’t have an answer” .
When you look in the mirror and you don't recognize the person staring back — the way you react, the things you tolerate, how tired you always are.
You are not losing yourself. You are just far from yourself for a while. And you can come back.
Let's talk honestly for a minute Why You Might Feel Like This
